missing 3rd???

Ok, well just recently I have started to miss 3rd gear when racing. I was wondering if this could be because my clutch is shifting or if I just suck? Well I used to have no problem until my clutch started slipping so I was wondering if that had anything to do with it. My question though is: Does the B&M shifter help with that? Will I see a big reduction in shift length and will I stop missing 3rd gear? Just curious as I am ordering my clutch and flywheel tomorrow, just want to know if I should add this to the list as well.

Thanks for any and all input!

I miss it sometimes, it is kinda weird, I ****** missed 3rd today and now my 5th gear is scraping every time i shift to it. Is this the dreaded 5th gear sycnhro?

Yeah, welcome to the club. No, you don't suck! A short shifter will most likely NOT help you, even though everyone says you'll never miss third again with one. Personal experience on that one. More than likely, your motor mounts are worn and your engine is shifting with the torque of the transmission. You can get new motor mounts, or you can look into one of these engine braces that everyone is talking about.

For the time being, just take it easy going into third: go into neutral for about a second, then into third. Kinda sucks, but it's better than missing it all together.

More than likely you've busted the synchro. Mine is gone too from missing third the same way.

That sound your hearing and feeling is the busted synchro. Don't feel bad lots of people do it. But the short shifter is one of the easiest ways to help the miss-shift. Because the spring is MUCH heavier on the short shifters it's nearly impossible to throw it into 5th by accident.

Hate to say it but, yes it is.
Here is some advice until u get it fixed. When shifting from 4th to 5th pause about 1-2 secs in between shifts and try to match the rpms with 5th. Once you get the hang of it it will go in smooth.

Also a few months ago I started to miss 3rd. I only miss it though, if im spinning in 2nd. Im not sure what caused this but my 5th gear syncro has been out for a good 6-8 months now. So instead of having it rebuilt, I just bought a low mileage tranny and going to do a swap next week. I cant wait!!
