Mini Battery or Relocation
Mini Battery or Relocation
I'm debating whether or not to relocate or just get a new mini battery. Getting a new mini battery would be a lot easier but just wondering which would be better overall. My plan if i relocate since i have the aem ignition to hook the positive end of the ignition to where i bolt the positive battery line in the engine bay. Also when i was thinking of a grounding spot of the neg. terminal thats already in the engine bay to the alt. bracket. Would that be a good grounding spot for the aem ignitions neg. terminal and the already existing terminal in the engine bay? Also i've been reading that you the best place to ground the battery in the back is off a seat belt bolt is this true? What kind of fuse would i need to put inbetween the positive side of the battery?
How long do these mini batterys last, mine didn't last a year but i did leave it in car during the winter i just don't want to end up with buying a new battery every year.
The 51R is big enough to not be a worry and will last a long time. I've had a regular Pep Boys 51R in my car for a long time with no problems. I am sure the Optima 51R would be even more durable.
I am switching (back) to a tiny little PC680 because I don't have room for anything bigger under the hood now. These don't have much reserve, but I used one without any probllems before I got a short that was unrelated to the battery and killed it. Amazingly, after draining my PC680 and having it sit around for years, we charged it back up and it seems to be okay. The PC680 is very small and only 15 lbs. Another option is the PC925 battery, which is larger than the 680 but still pretty small.
One thing to consider about moving the battery into the passenger cabin is that some drag strips and perhaps other track venues require an externall-accessible (i.e. sticking out of the body somewhere) cut-off switch. You don't need the switch of you leave the battery in the engine compartment.
I'll have my Jeff Hoskinson stainless steel 51R battery tray for sale soon. PM me if you are interested.

Right now i have the pc680 its dead, maybe i'll go and get the pc925 since its gonna be stronger. I just have to hope it'll fit though. Thanks for the info i really don't want to relocate the battery to much work.
