Glad this doesn't apply to me :-). Seriously, for all you metallurgy ignorant people here is a good page on the properties of "stainless steel" that even includes a chart w/ other "common" metals. I hope we don't get all confused by the facts...

Twokrx7, sorry you are easily confused. I suppose after reading this thread you had to race off to work to get things straightened out by your more knowledgable buddies.
I want to thank everyone for there comments, including the real metalurgists. I usually find that if you listen from all sides you eventually piece together a clear picture of whats going on, whether its based on theory, actual engineering/science or simply garage or backyard experience.
