Melted Black Bumpers

Why is it that so many of the bumpers on Black 3rd gens have a melted candybar look? Waves in the skin as if the sun was too much for it?

Absorbs the heat more than others? Probably murder on it. Sun probably IS too much for it.

93-94 have that problem on the front bumper, inadequate support beneath them, the 95 bumpers are fixed

same problem on miata's
