Mechanical Oiling System
Mechanical Oiling System
I noticed in an article about Gordon Monsen's car (SCC April 2002) that he has a mechanical oiler. Can someone tell me what that is, why is it needed, where can I get one and how much does it cost?
I guess no one else is using an after market oiling system. I wonder why? Many people use fuel oils and perhaps that is good enough but it would seem that a mechanical oiling system would be better because it would give more consistent oiling.
He probably just converted to the 86-88 style mechanical OMP and has the kit to run it off a seperate oil supply so he can use non-ashing 2 stroke oil.
I bought a new mechanical OMP when I Halteched my hybrid engine in my '87 TII.
I used a SS Lokar throttle cable off of a lever added to the 2ndary throttle plates shaft on the 3rd gen UIM that follows the curve of the intake manifolds and down to the OMP lever. I placed several holes along the levers length so I could adjust the ratio of oil injected/throttle position. I retained the feature of injecting engine oil- as it is idiot proof

The eletronic OMP can fail at ANY TIME regardless of power output! It was probably used instead of mechanical OMP for emmissions so that the oil inj. ratio could be "just" enough to keep the engine alive w/ out affecting emmissions too much.
