Mazdaspeed vented hood modification

I am planning a horizontal intercooler project over the winter to maximize the functionality of the Mazdaspeed hood vent. It would work best if I could enlarge the vent by a couple of inches towards the windshield, but I am afraid of losing the benefit... if I make the vent too large, eventually it will suck air into the engine bay. Anyone have any ideas on how big you can make the vent and still draw air out of the car? Hope this makes sense... I'll post pictures if it doesn't.

Even if you're sucking air into the engine bay, you're still displacing the hot air. I dont see the issue?

I can't get the page to open up for some reason but odula makes a hood that has wider openings that looks like they just enlarged the mazdapeed one.

www.odula.com

it might help as a guide as your enlarging the opening.

Vent

Sweet7 - I want to dedicate the vent for air flowing through the intercooler...I'd rather that it didn't flow back through the intercooler given that that would seem to compete with the intake.

I need to do something like that. At 90 mph my hood looks like its about to rip off.

I had a look at the odula and see what you are saying... I was thinking more like the panspeed one. The hood angles down more to the vent, and it is a much larger vent. I think if I go through the trouble of modifying the mazdaspeed hood, I may just be better off finding a panspeed one. It's also possible that this is all overkill and the mazdaspeed one will be fine on its own.
