what exactly does this piece do. i know its for streangthening the drivetrain and everything....but what exactly does it do?? and how do you break it??

You may need to copy and paste that link. The PPF is the black thing that connects the tranny to the rear diff. You can crack them from excessive wheel hop or if you have lots of power, worn diff bushings can cause the differential to rotate and bang around in the mounts, causing stress in that way as well. The Mazdaspeed version is red and is supposed to be stronger. Hope that helps.
