Mazda used this tape as part of their "anti-squeak" program towards the end of the 92 production run and subsequently in the 94 and 95 production runs. Here are a couple of pictures of what I am talking about:
Two pieces covering a metal tab and screw head (pealing off)
and a large piece showing the shiny weave,
This tape is very tough and very slippery on the non-sticky side. As in the first picture much of the tape on my car is falling off. Does anyone know of a source for this tape?
Dale, yes, I've got several rolls of Tessa tape. The Germans love that stuff and wrap everything with it. I like it better than the PVC electrical tape we use here in the States. I use it on all my German cars (OK, that's really only two).
I think I found one manufacturer of the tape, the Techno Polymer Co. of Japan, it is called Hushlloy HS110 anti-squeak tape and is a woven ABS material (that makes more sense than Nylon). The outside is very slippery and quite tough, yet because it is woven it is flexible and can bend around the shape it is covering. Clearly, after 23 years, it does not wear out like most of the anti-squeak felts that were used on other locations in the car. Techno Polymer said they would be glad to sell me enough for the Fourth Gen RX-7 production run.
Great minds think alike! So, I went to several sporting goods stores here in San Diego. My conclusion, San Diego is not a hockey town!! It is hard to find hockey equipment here. The stuff they did show me looked like it was designed to increase friction not make things more slippery. Were they showing me the right stuff?
