@lilfreddie thanks, but I'm the type of guy that wants to do it myself to make it my own.
@oyvinds that pretty much says it. And it reminds me of the E46 thing: it's not about one fast car vs. another, it's more about the practicality of a 20-year-old sports car vs. <insert favorite sedan here> I'm glad (almost) nobody thinks it's crazy to consider dd'ing an FD.
Clean unmolested FDs are certainly possible to find around here with some patience. I'll most likely get a cheap Honda and start looking for the right FD.
Thanks for the motivation and support doods.

Yes it has its idiosyncrasies; however, it is really isn't any worse than any other car I have owned and in many respects has required less maintenance. In my own experience, it certainly doesn't need to be babied or all the other voo-doo as many have described. I will concede that the dwindling supply of new parts has me concerned and paying more careful attention to the preservation of my car in general.
I still love driving it--it's pure sex--perhaps even more so now than when it was new, thanks to thoughtful and well performed mods.

There u go buy a Fd and an e36, those cars are nice and unstoppable, my father just passed 201,000 miles on his E36 and he says it drives just like new...

I generally agree with the foregoing. It is, in fact, a myth that the FD cannot be reliable as a daily. I bought mine 18 years ago and used it as a daily then and as I still do today. And in both unmodified and various modified forms. It's my primary vehicle and my preferred one for most road trips.

i've seen many FD's make it over 100k miles with nothing more than the normal prescribed maintenance.
