If you do your own motor do pay attention to the side seal clearance. Get them spot on the race specs and the motor will reward you. If you are reusing rotors do check the apex seal to rotor groove clearnace to confirm they are within spec. The grooves tend to get V shaped so do check the clearance from bottom to top of the groove. Lots of measurements to make to confirm parts are reusable, only insurance you have to try and get max life out of the rebuild. From what I've seen of Mazda remans, they don't measure anything.

Holy Snap Those funds can go towards a 20b swap. DIY is a great thing.

My suggestion is to find a good reputable shop to build one for you.

Kevin from Rotary Resurrection is known for very reasonable rebuilt. He now has several years of experience and has great track record. I would contact him and see what he could do for you.

Mmmm, it's not that I disagree with that quote from Herblenny, but not sure why a 10 yr old thread got revived just for a trio of thumbs-up.

I had my 93 rebuilt in 99 including turbos = $8004.73
engine $3200
turbos $2,600
I have 60,000k on the new engine and Im having issues with ideal once it get up to working heat temp.
The car sits a ton bit I start it every month or so.
I took it into a place to look at the ideal issue they said it has apex seal issues, back housing. Rebuild needed.
Verbal quote $10,000 engine only.
Im out in British Columbia, Vancouver area and am looking for a second opinion .. anyone have a contact.

Just had our '94 "overhauled" (new short block, new '99 spec turbos, plus parts). See this thread. Posts #123 and #134 (an update) list costs.

Yeah- I was going to comment, but found my original comment from 2006. I still feel the same, as if anyone cares.
