Turbojeff has asked some really important questions that need to be answered before you can draw much of a conclusion.
Is your car modded? How many miles on the engine?
The thing that really sucks about this that it going to take a hell of along time to resolve. I'm talking 3 months to a year! Nothing moves fast in the world of "pass-the-buck" its not my fault, yada yada yada....

if it is their fault...you need to call mazdas corporate office immediately and file a complaint with that dealer....they will lose allocation rank if they get complaints like this...odds are it has happened or similar has happened.
i took my car to Irvine Mazda and they tried to charge my warrantee company 7000 dollars for parts to replace my turbos. i lost my warrantee....and tripoint engineering tested my turbos and found nothing wrong. they tried to fark me and did...i filed complaints and that is all i was able to do. small thing...but dealers are careful about losing allocation and this kind of thing can not be allowed to happen....again..if it is their fault.

what was blown? coolant seals? apex seals? what?
im assuming you have a boost controller if they blew your apex seals....possibly upped the boost...but if its your coolant seals they have to overheat it and if it overheats then its not something that is necessarily their fault as aggressive driving can damage the seals to the point of breakablity if you do not keep an eye on your temps at all times.
so...either you have no temp guage or you have a boost controller and poor tuning...of course there are always variables like excessive heat or a bad tank of gas that can cause engine failure...usually its a fuel issue for the apex seals and heat issues with the coolant passages. the would have had to completely rocked your car over and over to damage it if you are properly tuned and if you have not been overheating your car....tis my thoughts anyhow.

Engine was stock
Was my daily driver, always started, drove everyday to work. I check fluids every week because I'm **** like that.
Engine had around 40K on it. It car had 117K on it but the engine was replaced by the previous owner at 75-80. I have the receipts in the car right not to prove it, but the receipts are at the dealer.
here's my point: It's not relaly an issue of WHY it broke or how it broke. Even though it's a little fishy that this car was so reliable for me and just happened to blow up when i drop it off at this shop for the first time. The issue lies in whose care it was in when the damage was done. I could go back and forth with them about whose fault it was, and i'm sure both of us would have an opinion, just like all of you do reading this. But you would think it would be in the shop's best interest end err on the side of caution in a gray area like this and take responsibility.
Logically, you drop off a car in great condition. 12 hours later it was undrivable, so therefore something happened while the car was in the shop to degrade the quality of the car, thus making it their responsibility.
Oh, and they haven't concluded exactly what happened, even though they have looked at it for two days. but, The y did a compression test and there is next to none on a couple cycles then nothing. You can also here metal churning inside when you turn the engine over. That's why i say it's blown, even though they haven't concluded exactly what happened. At thsi point it doesn't relaly matter, the car is undrivable and it wasn't when i droipped it off.
