I prefer to use the plastic quick disconnect. Yeah, it's goofy, but it spaces the rubber of the heater hose away from the block and drastically reduces the amount of oil it sees from oil filter changes and the like.

Any previous FC owner can tell you how FC's go through heater hoses like candy. I think that's one key reason for that plastic extension, FC's didn't have them and they always fail where it attaches from the block due to oil soak on the hose.

Also, the hose fits nice and snug on the quick disconnect, not so snug on the block nipple.

I see your point dale, the hose itself was completely fine and just blew off same as a i/c pipe would.
