Main cat removal and reliabilty issues

I have heard that removing the main cat with only the stock computer will cause the engine to run lean and blow up. I have already removed the pre-cat with an HKS downpipe and I have the HKS Carbo TI cat back exhaust. Please help me with this querry. I would like to just put in a midpipe and not a high flow cat. High flow cat is like $430 Thanks for the help.
