Made my first drag run ever today!

My stock FD ran 14.26 sec 1/4 mile.

It was very hot (25 deg. celcius)

My only mod is my 18 inch wheels with 235/40 goodyear eagle F1 tires.

I had wheel spin almost the entire first gear.

Im alittle disappointed cause i thought that i could do ca 14. But my car isnt new and it doesnt get faster by the years.

What do u think about my time? the strip i drove at doesnt have the best grip.

What times have you run on an completely stock FD?
(State your wheels and tires and other non powergaining mods).

One more thing.

Since this was my first time i noticed that you can either rev the car almost to 8k rpm or shift to 4th gear. I didnt have time to investigate on whats the fastest choice but i think keeping 3rd in would be the best. What do u think?

TobiasRX,

Only in Sweden is 25°C (77°F) considered hot!
How about 40°C (104°F) in Las Vegas, Nevada today?

Your 14.26 seconds sounds about average for a stock Series 3 to me. Be careful about overrevving a rotary engine; they are not as forgiving about that as a boinger. I would observe the redline if it were my car.

Sorry, I have no 1/4 mile data on my wife's near-stock '94.

Once you get your times down a little, your trap speed will go up and it will be necessary to shift into 4th. Also, there is something wrong if you are getting wheel spin through 1st gear with a stock car. Either that track is very greasy or you are launching at too high an rpm.

What was your launch technique? Also, 25 degrees C is a very mild August day here...

25 degrees C is winter here, lol.
What was your 60 ft time?
I ran a 14.21 @ 104 on a nasty slipping clutch in mine.
What was your trap speed?

Bill,

Actually rotories are very resistant to overrevving, 8k rpm (redline) is no big deal. A couple of forum members have accidently overevved their cars to 10k rpm and more (*cough* TTT *cough*) without breaking anything ! Try that in a boinger, can you say new valves? (valve: "OMG there's the piston get out of the way, ahhhhhHHHHH!!!! *clank*). Also, 3rd gens are referred to as Series 6 ('93-95) Series 7 ('96-98) and Series 8 ('99-'02), series 3 is a 1st gen I believe.

I think it should be noted that TTT has a rebuilt motor with a lager port and 3mm seals to go along with it as well, just in case someone tries to simulate TTT's experieince......

Nathan,

Thanks for the Series number info. Never heard that before, and I had always heard of the '93-95 as "Series 3" cars. Guess I'll stick with "FD." Maybe my statement about vulnerability to over revving is out of date. I had always heard it was death on seals (see Crashunit's post above).

hrmmm... I was under the impression that all stock cars could finish the 1/4 mile staying in third, and also reach 60 mph staying in 2nd....

because all magazine reviews, people usually compare
0-60 and 1/4 mile times to determine which car is the better performer, therefore car manufactures make sure their cars finish the 60mph and the 1/4 with out having to shift to 3rd and 4th respectivley... or somthing like that, I read lil while back... but it makes sense though

I never had to shift into 4th until I got a new act street/strip clucth. My cluch was not putting the power to the wheels, so my trap was about 98 or 99. Got the new clutch, I went from 15's to mid 13's and have to shift into 4th.

Lose the 18's bro!!! Christ without them you could prolly pull close to a 14 flat...put the stockers back on!

I have yet to run my all stock 93 R1, but I was at a track Thursday and a 93 touring with just catback and K&N filter did a 13.7xx

3mm apex seals aren't made for higher RPM's. Stock apex seals can handle higher than the 3mm seals because of size.

Either way, in first gear I shift around 8.5 ~ 9 then every gear after that at 7.5~

For 3rd gear, I'd just leave it and go thru at 8~

the reason i dont use my stock wheels is because i have the stock tires on them. The previous owner never had to change tires!!!

I didnt bother to change antyhing on my car because i just wanted a time so i have something to go on.

I would like to add that i made a very good at one try but i missed the 2nd gear I think with that start i would have been down to atleast 14.0-14-10.
