Talking Made the FD plunge today...

Found a '93 Black Base model with black cloth interior that I just put a deposit down on. It has about 100k on it, but interior has NO broken parts or tears any where.

Engine was replaced about 8k ago and I had it taken to RP for a complete check out. Compression and boost is good and even had them put it up on the dyno. This car is completely stock and pulled 220HP at the wheels. The only thing they were concerned about was the radiator, but I was planning on replacing that right off anyway.

I have only driven one other FD, but this one is a blast to drive. Drives great, but did hear a few clunks in the suspension when changing lanes going over the lane marker bumbs. Is that anything to be concerned about? Or is that just par for these cars?

Anyway, I have been following this board for a couple of weeks now and was happy to have such a great resource of information.

You'll be seeing me around for some time now! (Not that I will be useful coming from a N/A BMW world!)

Congrats on the car!

Since you are in Texas, I would definitely recommend getting the radiator replaced. You should check out:

http://www.absoluteradiator.com

and pick up a nice Fluidyne radiator as soon as you can.

Make sure you also get the normal reliabily items taken care of if they haven't been done:

http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/reliability.html

Don't forget to get the fluids and filters changed so you know where you are starting with teh car.

Welcome to the club!

BTW, the suspension clunking could be about anything. Could also be as simple as the tire changing tools shifting, or could be the bushing...

$13,800. Tried to work it down a little lower, but no go. I looked at a lot of them and pretty much walked away from most immediately. They were either trashed inside, too highly modded, or $18k+.

I got what I was looking for. Base model and cloth, but was actually looking for lower miles. For as clean as this car is, couldn't beat it. No paint work, no wrecks, only previously titled once, new inspection in January.

You get the idea. All I can say is patience is a virtue when trying to find the right one.

BTW, that included a 3 year 36,000 mile aftermarket warranty from Omni. Not sure what that is worth, but we shall see!

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

And I agree with that comment of taking over where the E30 M3 left off! I want the edge, tired of the plush!

if everyhting is true it seems like you got yourself a vey very nice 7. hope you the best of luck and even though it is a fairly new motor take prevented maintance steps as soon as possible (while you have money). read up on all reliabilty mods and you'll notice a difference, i did with the vaccum lines). best of luck and don't give up on the car. patience is key with rotaries.

Wow great deal man! So that being said, let me explain my deal....a 93 r1 black on black with 106,000 on chassis. The new motor, tranny, turbos, and clutch only have 200 miles. Has apexi power fc fuel management sytem, efini hard pipes, intake, header, exhaust, aluminum ast, silcone hose kit, zip tied, and a front mount intercooler for $14,500. I dont think there is a warranty but he is owner number 2 and the car has been fully check by a reputable rx7 shop and they say buy buy buy!! What do you guys think? From what Ive seen the car is cherry!

DelSol I personally think that car might be a bit high priced. Some people will pay more for a car with mods, and some people won't. Although I just noticed it's a r1 and I don't know how much more a r1 is worth over a base or touring package. But everything sounds good except for the header.. WTF? It shouldn't have a header. lol Maybe you mean downpipe or exhaust manifold? As the person who posted this message did I would see if you could get a warranty on it but they are hard to get on cars over 100k. Everything sounds straight though.

Header? Sounds sweet. What about a downpipe? I just bought a black R1 about a month or 2 ago and I paid $15900 for it. It has what is listed in the sig. except I bought the Power FC, SMIC, and MP afterwords. It as 83000 miles on the chassis and a full stereo system which I wish I didn't have. But oh well. Sounds cool to me.

Yes. LA Motorcars. Lance has been very respectable and allowed me to thoughly check the car out.

He has 4-5 other FDs right now as well. One mica yellow R1 with low miles and stock. It is already sold though.

This is the only base cloth one he had, but he has another base leather I believe.

If anyone is buying a car from him sight unseen, I would be happy to stop by and take a few digital pictures for you. Believe it or not, he said that 70% of his business is out of state sight unseen!

Oh come on guys my mistake and you kindy rub it in.......im used to piston engines and they all have headers....guess its time for me to eat crow....sorry =] so you think i should get a waranty or look into it? as far as the mod thing goes i totally agree that mods dont up the value but considering i was going to buy the power fc and just about every mod he has on it right after i got the car for way more i think its a good deal. lets say for a second all he has is the reliability mods. what would the car be worth....(ie new motor and all just now performance mods)

thanks guys

Congrats dude. Spent 14K on a 94 PEP model, 67K miles and very cherry inside and out. Felt like I stole it since all similar cars in my area were going for 17-20K. Best of luck. It is definitely the best car I've ever driven- a total blast everytime I get in it. Enjoy yours as well.

Ok cool so then Ill buy it. Now all I need is to sell my car and get a hold of him again. La Motorcars seems like a great place to buy cars. I talked to the guy on the phone and he seemed really knowledgeable but he seems kinda high priced. Not to mention almost all of his cars are bone stock with old motors. But Im sure he has some cars. I ALOMST bought an r2 from him but he sold it =[
