low compression, lower octane fuel?

I was just curious. If your motor has relatively lower compression, could you safely use lower octane gas. I don't think I will, but I am just curious. With lower compression I would think the chance of premature detonation is reduced....?

I say correct. Lower compression ratio, lower octane.

:withstu: He's right! I'm not sure how much it affects things exactly (ex: goingfrom 9.0:1 CR --> 8.5:1 CR I couldn't tell you how much lower you could go on the octane).

"Cheuk in seoul" on the fourm runs 8.5:1 CR on 87 (??) octane gas and pumps out ~400rwhp (!)
