Loss of Temperature Reading while driving.
Hi all,
Has anyone every encountered problems in which they lose their water temperature reading from the thermo sender (green) while driving? I thought it was a break in my harness, so I re-wired and routed it back to the ECU, but it turns out that didn't fix the problem.
I checked all the connections, but while driving the temps will drop to -39, and then start counting itself back up. The car will then bog and stall out completely. Does that sound like the sensor or possibly the PFC?
Sensors are cheap, so I'll just replace it, but I thought sensors either worked or didn't, so I assumed it's not the sensor.
So I'm curious...anyone ever experience this before?

I've seen similar things occur but yes it is usually due to a problem with the harness or connector.
I have seen thermosensors that were inaccurate but not completely dead. There would be a reading but it is obviously not right... like 20C when the thermostat is clearly open. It seems odd that this would be intermittent but yes you should try replacing the sensor next. If the reading is way off (too low) it might start dumping in fuel which would make the car run horribly.

I would replace the sensor regardless, it's easy and cheap and the sensors after a long time can start to give incorrect readings. If that doesn't work and you know for sure the wiring is okay then you could have a problem with the ECU.
