Hi, I'm looking into getting a 3rd gen rx-7 and have some basic questions about them. If there is a sticky thred somewhere I missed regarding these please point me in that direction. I currently own a heavily modified 97 eclipse which I am selling so I am not new to cars or turbos just the rotary.

I was looking into a lower mileage car (80 or under) and was wondering what issues will come up with the car. What is common maintaince for the car and costs? I am looking to autocross it but also want to be able to put down some decent numbers at the strip. From what I have found they run 14.0 stock but what modifications are required to break into consistant mid to low 12s? How long does a typical engine last in these cars and what is the cost of a rebuild or to build a rotary to run lower than 12s?

If you have any other information that you think I should know about the car please let me know.

Concerning the issues you can expect anything can happen.
-Cost of rebuild goes from 1,600$-4,000$+
-If you only want to drag race I would look elsewhere
-Engines have lasted from 1 mile to hundreds of thousands
-You need money lost of money to live with this car

Well if you have a heavily modded eclipse is probly already faster and more reliable then a FD ever will. If you want your FD to be fast you better have a good job some know how and be a optomistic person becouse these cars are very picky . If you beat on it and dont take care of it, the car will bite you were it usally hits hardest right in the old pocket book.

So if you want some advise do a whole lot of reading and study up becouse if you buy one you will have to apply it. So still with the DSM for now.
