You know, there are a lot of people people that get swindled when being 100%sure about their buy, so when you have a doubt it's better to back off IMHO, even though you'll still want a car you'll still have your money. And I am sure you can find something less..fishy.
P.S. and who goes on a business trip without his cell (I know he said he forgot, ...).

Why even waste your time? it is OBVIOUSLY a scam, further inquiry will result in them pushing the original plan again, and eventually not responding to you all together once they realize you're not going to just hand over the money.

Check your facts, Ebay certainly DOES have a vehicle purchase protection program:
http://pages.motors.ebay.com/buy/pur...ion/index.html
If you would like more information on all of Ebays buyer protection services here is a link:
http://pages.motors.ebay.com/services/overview.html
Scammers do however use this to make potential victims feel more secure, and it is definitely something that is only available with purchases made through ebay.
This is without a doubt a scam, forget about it and move on.

I can assure that he would say something like: send me money via Western union. You don't have to have account in Western Union, you just have to have security code from sender, and your identity document (in this case it would be fake), then you can take that money anywhere I mean Europe, USA, Asia. So there is little to no chance to take scammer on tape to see his face plus inform the police to watch concrete Western Union.
Why I'm know that much and saying this all?, I remeber buying ~6000$ straight running car FD3s 1.5 year ago . The seller was some italian football player (so that was his name and surname). At first i was excited getting FD from known sportsman. But then I became suspicious as the scammer began to mention money problem, that he is in one country car is in other that it costs to take car from company 100 euro and he can't afford it. I asked for more recent pictures of it he could not provide company telephone number to arrange everything. When i wanted to check the car in concrete time he sayed it not possible offered that I should send my rellatives later, but first of all i should send money.
After some research about this type of thefts, I left him without oportunity told him to be carefull - sooner or later those MF are cought, its just how much damage they do.
So hopefully my post would help someone to avoid suspicious deal. And yeah avoid deals where Western Union is mentioned, afterall we live in 21st century most of us have credit cards where payments could be easily made.

No to totally change the topic, but the young partner in our medical practice has a 93 red touring. I think. He is the original owner. He just had twins and the car has been sitting in the garage since the engine died. He is here in Dallas. He's not sure on what to offer for price, but if you are interested I can huff over there and take some pics and get some info. Just pm me.
(lol not a scam)

scam to the tenth power... Ran into a bunch of these momo's while looking for my FD.
Here's what I can tell you from first hand experience. I did buy my fd from ebay and saw it in person before any cash changed hands.
1. You absolutely must be a member of ebay to take advantage of the protection service.
2. The seller doesn't purchase it, it's automatically included when the car is listed.
3. Just ask for an ebay auction number. They can't give you one (Because it doesn't exist)
DO NOT buy this car!
