Looking for engine advice
Looking for engine advice
Hey guys, first real post so take it easy on me. Long story short I purchased a new 13b rew from irp back in October been waiting for it every since at first was paving parking lot then they told me they received a bad batch back in December and the one they were going to ship me had a cracked rear iron. Anyway the question I am having is if this is normal or should I try getting a refund and look elsewhere or say have someone like rotary res try to build one (giving he has parts) or just wait it out. I also purchased back before they went up in price so would end up paying more but that's no big deal. Also I have sent a few emails lately with no response asking for an eta.
Thanks for any help,
Lane

IRP is a good shop, I think a lot of things are at the mercy of supply right now and those engines are in high demand. They can get busy, I'd call and talk to them about it and see if you can get a better time line.
Also they will give you an honest answer if they can't get you an engine in a timely fashion.
If it was best/faster to go another route do you have a core engine?
Regardless the Mazda crate engines are hands down the best bang for the buck right now.

Yea they have been helpful on the phone but never could get an eta and no core worth rebuilding spit apex seals in both rotors. Don't get me wrong not trying to bash irp at all they really seem to know there stuff from talking to them. Just trying to get some advice.

when was the last time you asked for an ETA? Mazda USA has inventory right now, so it could be soon (it needs to go from Mazda to a dealer to irp to you...)
As we stated via our conversations multiple times, we received a shipment of motors where several had cracked rear irons due to the poor packaging at Mazda and them falling over during transit. These are extremely limited and in short supply as is, and the pandemic has slowed down shipments and supply chains across the industry. We sell a ton of these and distribute them in the order in which they are purchased. While these are not a complete loss to us as we can get new replacement rear plates and use them for in house builds that are getting opened up, yours was a stock motor. Therefore it would not be right to sell one of these to you. We have already offered you the choice of waiting it out or a complete refund. I apologize for the inconvenience but there is nothing else we can do to speed up the process. Alternately I can offer to rebuild your existing motor at a discounted rate. Further, we apologize as we are getting mixed answers from Mazda as to when the next batch of motors we purchased is due to arrive. We are currently being told mid to late June.
