Question looking to buy a 93

44K miles, bad 5th gear sync. I am pretty new to these cars how hard would it be to replace the 5th gear sync by myself. What other things should I look for on first inspection and on test drive. Is there any other problems beside 5th gear that I should be ready to encounter. Going to look at thursday, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'm new here too. Alot of the regulars are going to tell you to use the search function. It seems alot of newbies ask the same questions so they get a bit grouchy :p But all in all almost everyone here is really really helpful. They know their stuff. I can't tell you too much. From what I've found out get a compression test on the engine, check the boost patterns on the turbos, make sure all recall have been done, get a carfax done so make sure you get the VIN#. I don't know much about the 5th gear thing so mabye someone else will chime in on that. Like you said the engine will probally need a rebuild soon depending on how the car was driven. Also try the search I'm still doing the research but plan on having my very own RX7 in about a year. Good luck.

Well if it is in a good condition go for it as far as the 5th gear synchro thing

You will only have to replace the synchro it will cost you somewhere in the range of $479+ depending the shop and cost of labor. I know for a fact that KDR charges $479 that is with parts and labor. If you are looking toward that car, words of advice make sure that it is in atleast top shape condition i mean the turbo is proper maintain and there should not be any problem with engine. You should know more about the car and I know there are couple of websites that guides and gave good info. on knowing what to look on a used RX-7 and what to look for. I forget the websites but there are post from members that going through the same process as you are. Good luck!
