drag racing brakes = one time only, heat not a consideration. Besides Ferrari's have two seperate calipers on the rear. One is the parking brake. This is nothing new.

Vipers have that little rear caliper for the parking brake too. Lots of high end cars have them since the damn things roll on so much rubber. That much brake pad surface area isn't necessary unless you have some real wide wheels that aren't of large enough diameter to use bigger rotors.

Does anyone in this thread realize that your brakes aren't what determines stopping distance if they're large enough that they won't fade at the speed you're stopping from?

You can only lock them up, or preferably, with threshold braking or ABS, stay just on the verge of lock up. Past that point, do you know what's stopping your car? Think hard...

Try some auto parts brakes and some really sticky tires. You'll be amazed how well the car stops

GET QUALITY TIRES FIRST!! If you start getting brake fade, upgrade to stainless steel brake lines and racing fluid... If you still get fade THEN upgrade to bigger brakes. It's also more cost effective to upgrade this way

they may work well for drag racing but are not designed for a "sportscar" application. the rotor has no mass to absorb the heat. secondly the second caliper masks the rotor so it is less able to radiate the absorbed heat. they would warp in 15 minutes of driving on a canyon road or at the track.

as Jim L indicates, once you can lock up the wheels any further gripping force is wasted. the issue w the Fd is rotor mass not the calipers.

...feet?! like in the Flintstones? no no just kidding i know it's really the angle of your drift right, depending on the slope of Japanese downhill road that is.

?? Upgrading the fluid isn't going to automatically going to cure that. This is on the assumption that you're getting to the point of actually boiling the fluid. And SS lines would give you a firmer pedal for a bit before it fades anyway.

If your brakes are good enough for repeated braking without fade, then your tires are ultimately your stopping distance factor. Get some nice warmed up r compound tires and I'm sure that you'll stop a lot sooner.

Come on Jim.. You know if it's in magazines, way bigger than stock, is marked "JDM" or "SPEC", or is outrageously overpriced.. it must be better, right?

I agree with Howard and Jim Lab..

So, what do you guys about this set up that I saw last weekend.. It was on this NSX that I saw.. the guy was an *** and acted like he knew everything.. I personally can't really see how this would improve braking.. or is it just for looks?? I could see that it could lower the mass and maybe made with some special material to lessen the warpage..

Wow. Wonder if he's ever stepped on the brake pedal? I would imagine they would be very fragile.

Also, did anyone else notice the original thread starter typed every single word beginning with a capital letter? Off topic, but I thought it was kinda weird.

Those rotors are made from Titanium, I believe. I've seen them very recently in a magazine (domestic), but can't remember which one. I believe it was Vette.

The rear brakes only do about 15% of the braking chores. You don't need huge calipers in the back.
