Question Limp Mode Returns after ECU reset.

Hey all,
Stock FD (sans MazdaComp Rad)
It seems that my FD tends to go into "Limp/Safe Mode," pretty often nowadays. I do reset the computer (unplug neg battery cable, and depress brake pedal). After resetting, the car runs/boosts fine. Drive and shutdown a couple of times more and FD is back into safe mode!

At first this happened sporadically, then a little more frequent, now it is happening almost after every shut off.

Yes i do wait for proper warm up, and i don't think the MazdaComp Rad is overcooling; it used to happen with stock rad as well.

I searched and the closest thread to my topic remained unanswered:https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=66808

I believe that thread assumed a bad "map sensor." Is this the culprit?

Thanks!
Edgardo

I would try checking for "stored codes" in the ecu even though your not getting a check eng light. if your not sure how just call or ask in a thread and i'll explain. you must check after it goes to limp

okay, i'll check since it is in limp mode again, heh.
I'll search to find out how to check...I remember its something like grounding 2 places with a paper clip.

Thanks!

Mine did that, too. But wouldn't act up when I took it to RotorSport Racing. Thought it might have been oil metering pump going out. Started pre-mixing gas, and hasn't done it since.

in the diagnostic box connect TEN to GND, do this w/a paperclip, turn the key on(not the car) and count. short blinks of the check eng. light are 1 - 9 and long blinks are 10,20, 30, etc. up to 70

Thanks a lot rx4ur7!!!!! Since you posted the instructions, i felt obliged to check right now.
The error code is:
5 long 1 short. (first showed 5 blinking semi-long, paused, then 1 quick short one)
51 right?

I'll be looking forward for your help, I'll also try to check if i can see what code that is myself.

Thanks!
Edgardo

Okay i've looked up what error code 51 is:
"Fuel Pump Relay-open or short circuit"
Finally a clue to the problem! Any info available to assist in checking to see if the Fuel Pump Relay is busted or shorted?
Laters!

Identical Problem with a twist.

I have the same exact problem with a twist. The problem described and the ABS light coming on seems to alternate. After resetting the ECU, the ABS light comes on. The car runs fine for about a day or two. Then the above mentioned problem arises, but the ABS light goes off. I check the codes this morning, 51, fuel pump relay. I replaced it and reset the ecu. ABS light came back on. I'll post the results in a day or two. Anyone with this problem? Please post something. Thanks
