LHD Spirit R !!!

5 Attachment(s)
Was at shop last week, and saw this LHD spirit R been worked on. It was converted from RHD to LHD. Here are some shoots. Love those seats.

What steering wheel is that? I'm guessing it's the factory spirit R one, but what else does it come on?

It looks like it's smaller diameter, so it'd fit me better in the car :D

dubulup 06-06-06 10:40 AM

pretty dirty engine bay...if indeed that is a real Spirit R...why no pic of the #### of 1500 in the bay???

and the painted lip w/ no brake ducts, and I don't think Spirit R's came w/ fog lights

Fubawu 06-06-06 11:23 AM

seems sad to swap rhd to lhd, kinda butchers the car.

RotaryDrift 06-06-06 11:25 AM

It is the stock spirit r. Notice the red stiching. The shifter and shifter boot also have that special red stiching. They aren't cheap. I think Ramy had one for sale a while ago but I don't remember what it went for.

Nuvolari 06-06-06 12:38 PM

It looks like the real deal, but they should have left it as is. Not many of those around , to bad this one got modded out.

And second on the nasty engine bay, clean that puppy up.

dubulup 06-06-06 12:48 PM

if it were real, the water pump housing would not be in that shape. There are so many signs on that car that scream "not Spirit R".

Fubawu 06-06-06 02:00 PM

I agree ^^^

True, people would go to extreme lengths for their ride. I've seen a full spirit r conversion done to a 94 fd. Like dubulop said, if it where a true spirit r, it would have that plaque with which number spirit r it is. I'm calling this just a conversion. Clean conversion though. I'm down.

Forgot to add, if i was this person and this was a true spirit r, i would of kept the stock bbs rims, those things are freaking expensive and to get aftermarket rims would do the spirit r no justice.

seanbrowning 06-06-06 02:49 PM

If it was truely a Spirit R and converted to LHD, I would castrate whoever did it. Thats just ridiculous. Why would you do that to such a beautiful car.

exactly, that's what i was thinking too. no 1 is stupid enough to do the RHD spirit R 7 to LHD, especially if the driver wanted to get all the attention and bragging rights.

jimshih 06-06-06 07:15 PM

What's up with the front license plate?? It's a Taiwan plate.

GoodfellaFD3S 06-06-06 07:57 PM

If that is a conversion, someone has an awful lot of cash. I like it, although I would clean that engine bay (and take all the stock parts out of the passenger footwell)

fd3s777 06-06-06 08:25 PM

As most of you all know, I'm mostly in Taiwan. This is why all my RX-7 tags are Taiwan tags. This car was actually import direct from Japan. By Taiwan traffic law, no RHD are allow on the road. So the owner had it convert to LHD. Fake? no no... It is real. In order to have to legally on the road, owner had to use another FD's vin tag. So Spirit R tag was removed...

fd3s777 06-06-06 08:26 PM

car looks dirty is cuz it is still in stage of conversion...

rotarycrazy 06-06-06 08:38 PM

I like the cluster in silver with the 6 oclock rpm's any body know where could I get one.

I know... Alway nice to have 2002 new car... I'm looking for one as well. Even tho I have all 2001 parts on my car, but not the chassis.

dubulup 06-06-06 09:29 PM

its a fake

chinaman 06-06-06 10:01 PM

Why chop a Spirit R and mate it to a left hand drive body? If cars in Taiwan are left hand drive, why did the person not get an FD from there and switch the necessary parts from the Spirit R???. Seems to me that this is exactly what was done. You need all the interior plastics from a left hand drive car (Spirit R plastics face the other way).

Ramy must've sold this guy a Spirit R cluster and related parts. I may be wrong, but it just seems a little fishy.

Joe

seanbrowning 06-07-06 12:54 AM

Well as with the VIN stuff, they may have imported a Spirit R, and just forged the paper work using a different VIN from a legal FD for registration, thus replacing all of the VIN markings with the other car's stuff. I always though about doing that if I were to import a car, to get it registered. :)

CowWong 06-07-06 10:48 AM

hey, that head light seems like it's the 3rd Gen FD ver.2 from jap

Scrub 06-07-06 06:57 PM

It's the OEM Nardi wheel w/ the Flying M emblem. These came on 2000+ FDs, but the red stitching only came on the Spirit R ones. I have one or two of these wheels for sale, but not the Spirit R w/ stitching one. That one's priceless IMO.

The 2000+ Nardi, yes (not a Spirit R one). I usually ask $525 shipped for a MINT one.

I'd like to see a pic of the firewall where the plate used to be. There would still be a marking/impression from it, or at least a difference in the paint texture right there. Also, post some shots of the brake setup. Spirit R's came w/ their own larger brakes (even larger than the RZ's).

I got one for sale. But it's pretty damn expensive... PM me if you're interested.

 I swear it wasn't me lol. Although I do try and get ahold of any and every Spirit R part that *ever* pops up for sale... :D

If you did, having your car seized and crushed would be the *least* of your worries. That's a FEDERAL crime, and there have been quite a few guys who have gone to jail for such things.

Not really commenting on whether I think it's real or not, but the wheels are Spirit-R Type B whereas the seats are from a Type-A, right? I have not yet seen a Spirit-R with those items from two different models mixed like that.

How would that work? Is the VIN not engraved on the center of the back of the engine bay like the US models? Unless they don't engrave VIN on the center of the engine bay back wall I don't see how he could have switched all the VIN's.

DaiOni 06-08-06 06:59 PM

just for trivia's sake - all but the base spec FDs for version V and VI (99-02) have rear window tints from the factory

jic 06-08-06 07:33 PM

To the extent of my knowledge, Japanese domestic vehicles do not have V.I.N.s'. What is engraved on the firewall of the Spirit R in place of our V.I.N. is "FD3S-" and then the serial number. JDM RX-7s' have an I.D. plate riveted to the passenger side (US) firewall that indicates the model, paint code, and vehicle I.D. number. The Spirit R has an additional "numbered" plate riveted to the driver side (US) firewall. The attachment is a JDM I.D. plate. The car that is in question in this thread is most likely NOT a Spirit R.

No, they come with these wheels.

The wheels in the first picture look to be RZ wheels

Spirit R or not doesn't matter. Just want to share some nice pictures with you guys. No more post on this thread... tired of trying to let you guys know what it is.
