Lets talk Viton O-rings

I ordered some Viton O-rings from McMASTER-CARR because I wanted some rubber that will last longer with the heat and oil and hopefully not leak like crazy.
I ordered some #157 Brown Viton(R) Fluoroelastomer O-Ring for the throttle body and some #227 for the Y-Pipe. TB was the right size, Y-pipe was the wrong size so I just ordered some #225's that should be just right for the Y-pipe.

PICS!
#157 O-Rings

#227 O-Rings

Anyone have any experience with the Y-Pipe o-rings? Will the #225's work I searched and didn't get any definitive answers.

#227 is definitely to big for y-pipe. The ID of the #227 is the same size as the OD of stock one (2 1/8 ish). So i just ordered some #225's which have an OD of 2 1/8 and ID of 1 7/8. Should work right Ill post pics in a few days if it works and ill have 9 more which ill have no use for.

ID= Inner diameter
OD= Outer diameter

Have you pressure tested to verify that they don't leak?

Haven't pressure tested yet, car isn't in one piece yet haha. I don't see why they wouldn't seal well.

The one in your TB looks like it is thicker than the stock one, so it should sea better. I'm going to order one because I know the new oem I order last summer leaked.

#225 O-Rings, very tight fit had to use some motor oil to get it in.

#225 on top of the old one

side note: be very careful when putting the 2 parts together, it has to slide in straight or you will take a chunk out of it.

Thanks for the info

bumping this to see if anyone knows which viton o-ring might be compatible for the oil filler neck, or the diameter of the stock one.

T/B o-ring is too thick in diameter, may warp your flange.

Karack-

Question since this is WELL outside my realm of knowledge.

When you suggest the TB O-ring will warp that flange...are you talking about the flange on the elbow such as a Greddy or the recess in which the TB sits?

Once again not being versed in physics or elasto-polymer engineering or whatever the hell this relates to, how does this warp based on an o-ring? Does the area really get that hot or?

Thank you for sharing!

I'd be interested in one of those y pipe o rings if it worked. And to help you get rid of some stuff lying around.

Cool,
I'm using one for the throttlebody and another one for the Oil filler cap.
