Knock sensor???

So yesterday evening we tried testing the knock sensor by tapping a breaker bar on the rotor housing right above where the knock sensor sits. While tapping on the block I held the rpm's at 2,000-2,500-and 3,000. Turned out that nothing happened while testing by tapping. There were no fluctuations in idle at all. Does this mean that the knock sensor is not working?

I don't think it fluctuates the idle any, IIRC all the knock sensor does is detect knock and if its large enough it retards timing. You would probably have to hook a timing light up and verify that it backs timing off as you hit the housing.

Should it be checked with a voltmeter?
Does anyone have an easy way to check this with a voltmeter, because the manual only shows one place to put one of the testers, and not where to place the other....

knock sensor....

Does anyone have a system on how to test the knock sensor with the voltmeter? The manual only shows where to place one of the voltmeter probes and not the other....
