Kaaz Diff..?

what can the Kaaz do for your car? dont realy know how they work..do they improve acceleration or handeling, or both?

to_slow Feb 2, 2002 11:21 PM

I wold like to know the same thing..:)

1bad7 Feb 2, 2002 11:33 PM

i think that they can just withstand more horsepower. im not sure if they provide anymore traction or not but i would guess that they do since they're not 10 years behind.

JoeD Feb 3, 2002 01:11 AM

the KAAZ LSD will give you insane amounts of traction (ask ErnieT...he'll tell ya. ;) ) it will also withstand more power and harder launches as opposed to the stock Torsen unit. but it is originally not made for drag racing. all drift cars in Japan have upgraded LSDs, either from KAAZ or Cusco. im assuming it will make drifting/taking tight corners easier, but dont quote me on that.

RotaryKnight Feb 3, 2002 05:21 AM

KAAZ is a clutch type LSD which can hold a lot more power. The problem is that clutches do wear out. If you do a lot of street driving you gotta rebuild it every year. Also you have to replave the LSD fluid every 4k miles.

TainoIndian Feb 3, 2002 09:57 AM

.

Sound like i need to get one of them suckers.....KAAZ & cusco the same quality? so you have to rebuild them every year and and change fluid? what exactly do you rebuild the KAAZ with what is the proccess and what kinda fluid you have to change on em?

ErnieT Feb 3, 2002 10:49 AM

I've never heard of the Kaaz wearing out. I have over 12k on mine and its as strong as it was new. You do, however have to change the diff. oil every 3k or so. Only takes a few minutes to do.
The Kaaz is a great upgrade for your FD especially if you drag race. The stock diff. will be destroyed after a couple good wheel hops. The Kaaz plain just hooks up. I've launched at over 7k with slicks and had no problems.
If you don't do much drag racing or have a high horsepowered car, then its not really needed.

FstFD3SPOWER Feb 3, 2002 10:53 AM

how much are they?
you guys installed urs by ur self?

ErnieT Feb 3, 2002 10:55 AM

They run around $700-800. And No, I wouldn't recommend you doing it yourself. You have to take the whole pumpkin out of your rear. Not exactly easy for the do it yourselfer.

Fritz Flynn Feb 3, 2002 10:18 PM

weight

Does anyone know the weight diff between the kaaz and stock diffs?

TainoIndian Feb 4, 2002 01:29 PM

Does KAAZ have web site?

Does Kaaz have web page??

I have about 30-35 runs on the stock rear with a 4.33 upgrade.
So far so good launching at 3500-4000 w/drag radials. I have heard some guys run slicks w/stock rear
and they last?
Anyway I have heard nothing but good things about the kaaz carrier unit.
What I am wondering is what will go first on me this year if anything the axles or rear diff?
Tough choice kaaz rear about 700,drag axles about 700 ????
I hear different opinions.....

MeLoN350 Feb 4, 2002 06:10 PM

I have heard that if you blow the stock Torsen you destroy your whole pumpkin. If you are into drag racing I would suggest switching to a Kaaz before you blow your stock rear, unless you have a spare one laying around.

the rear diff will definately go out sooner than the axles. but once you have the KAAZ diff, you will be launching harder, and the stock axles will snap sooner or later.

the KAAZ diff/RP Axle combo is strong enough to get you well into the 9s, but i heard Ari is snapping 350M chromoly axles left and right.

Freaky Monkey007 Feb 4, 2002 06:31 PM

He is now having them cryoed from what i heard. Dont quote me on this though

RotaryKnight Feb 4, 2002 06:33 PM

Well one good thing about the KAAZ if you break and axel you can still drive home.....well at least limp home.

DeNguyen Feb 4, 2002 07:50 PM

if the KAAZ is a clutch type LSD, what is the stock torsen..?

A TORque SENsing LSD, it's clutchless. Check out http://www.howstuffworks.com/differential8.htm and http://www.sonic.net/garyg/zonc/Tech...ferential.html

FDeez Feb 4, 2002 09:04 PM

I blew the stock Torsen dragging. Yes, it was because of wheel hop. The final drive was also stripped. I replaced the whole thing with a 1.5 Kaaz LSD and a 4.33 final drive. In my opinion, I wish i got another Torsen unit, less chatter, less noise, less to worry about. Since i don't drag anymore. It's all about road racing!

Oh yeah, I also took out the diff case myself. It is a bitch, but i saved myself 400 bucks in labor.

TainoIndian Feb 4, 2002 09:17 PM

?

so if i were to get a KAAZ i would also have to get a new stonger axle?
is the KAAZ a streetable upgrade or only suggested for track use/ or is it street/track?

I have several friends with either the Cusco or Kaaz(two have bridgeported engine's...one 68-1 and one T-51R, the other two have T-04R's) and none of them have broken axle's. It's a good streetable upgrade. Trust me, you can drive in on the street with no problems.

what kind of driving/racing do they do? you wont break your axles unless your drag racing on slicks, dropping the clutch at 7K+, and have 400+ RWHP to boot. :)

TainoIndian Feb 4, 2002 11:57 PM

sounds good!

sounds like i need one of these how much are the cusco diffs by the way?
does it improve 0-60 times

since you will have much more traction, acceleration times will improve significantly. if you dont have traction issues, then you probably will not see any improvment.
