K&N Drop In Filter/ What cleaner and oil?
Just bought a used K&N drop in for the stock air box; it came pretty dirty.
How have you guys been cleaning them? Good ole soap and water or what? And then afterwards what kind of oil do you put on them. The guy I bought it from said he had some oil for it which he send but it's just liquid in a little plastic bottle. How the heck do you apply it? Seems to me to coat the filter you'd have to spray it on.? Maybe not.
I know I saw a "recharge kit" including cleaner and oil but I figured it was probably just a rip off where good ole Joy dishwashing liquid and some spray oil of some type would work as well or better.
TIA for the help.

Just use the K&N stuff. It isn't that expensive and there are a lot of ways to go wrong on the oil (not just any oil will work). If you have decided to be super-cheap, clean it with Joy or degreaser, but at least get the air cleaner oil.

Break down, spend the $9 and buy the recharger kit. It has the cleaner, the oil, and a set of instructions. It's too easy to damage the relatively fragile filter with an inappropriate cleaner or oil.....it's just a thin gauze in a wire mesh. The oil is what really stops the dirt.

I'm sold!
Thanks for all the input guys.....
I'll definitely get the real deal........ I was thinking this might be something I have to buy on a regular basis and there were typical household goods that I could use instead but the consensus is not to.........Thanks
I'm probably just gun-shy after I spent $47 and $26 for two gaskets for each end of the downpipe....a simple little SS gasket for $47?!?
Bend over Rover, Mazda's comin over......the bastids...
Thanks again and off to autozone I go......
