Just replaced fuel filter... Now car wont start...
Hey Guys,
I just changed my fuel filter. But like an idiot the first time I tried to start the car without priming the system. While I was trying to start it then I heard a nice "pop" sound. My heart just dropped at that sound...
So I tried again after priming the system and it still wouldnt start for me. No leaks a visable from the filter but my damn car just wont start now. Is my car flooded? Or did I just screw over my engine? It came close a couple of times when I was trying to start it but just couldnt go.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated...
Thanks!
Jon

When fuel leaks out of the fuel lines while you're changing the filter, you lose some of what's holding in the rails up front- it washes back. You'll have to prime the fuel system. You just have to use a wire and touch two pin sections in the diagnostics box. There are how-to's on it on some of the tech sites. I can't remember which ones though. Hopefully someone will chime in with a diagram and help me out because I can't remember unless I look at it. Once you put the wire ends in the right terminals, just turn the key to ACC and you'll hear the pump prime. If you have an aftermarket FPR, you can check your readings adn when the pressure levels off, you're good. Just pull the wire back out and crank it normally again. If you end up cranking a lot, make sure you smell for fuel because you might soak your plugs if it cranks over too much before it starts.

He said he already went back and primed the system but just in case, I believe the diagrams are on lightning in a world of thunder by rob robinette...That may or may not be the correct spelling. Good luck.

Hmmm...maybe you put the filter on incorrectly. I just recently changed my filter too and I remember trying to blow through the old filter and it only flows one way, and i also remember that the hoses can accidently be switched if your not careful. Might want to double check that, you never know.

Did you disconnect anything to disable the fuel injection? Like the fuel pump relay? You may have just forgotten to plug something back in.

I got the car started with my foot on the gas... The car would of stalled if I did not have the gas down. However, I saw smoke coming from the turbo side of the engine. My guess was the upspent fuel but I shut the car down which was a big mistake. Now my car is flooded again... This is really frustrating the hell out of me.
Since the car started it leads me to believe that the filter is on the correct way. I made careful not of what line went where anyhow.
Hopefully it can fire up again and I'll just let it smoke like all hell... About how long should I expect the car to smoke for after its finally started? And it seems like it was only started one rotor.... Is that also normal?
Thanks!
