just put on smb metallic cat

i just put on the smb metallic cat. For some reason it smells alittle funny, not like fuel . i just started my car for the first time in awhile . i was wondering if anyone that has put on the smb cat also has this weird smell. thanks

it's probably the oils that is put on the cat to protect it from corrosion. It will go away, if it is still there after about 50 miles, then there's a problem.

not a prob. when I put my bonez hiflow it smoked a bit and smelled like burning oil, I thought my engine had blown, lol.

Is it resonated? I know that sometimes when you buy a new exhaust, the muffler can smell funny for a little while. Probably normal.

I noticed on mine that the funny smell goes away after the car warms up (could be the cat is not catalyzing at startup yet?). I only have about 50 miles on mine though so it could also be what others posted above.

Yep. The substrate needs to be at a certain temperature before the hydrocarbons will react with it. This was the reason for the stock precat; cold start emissions tests that measure the car in the first few minutes of running.
