I guess if you buy one from rx7 store and it sits at the same spot...as far as I know thats the only place you can fit the torque brace...I haven't really tried to compress it tho but I took it apart and seems like its just a steel pipe rather then a actual shock...
jason from jt-imports said that it does compress alittle bit. here is what he said from the other board
Hey as per the translated instructions the brace actually does
compress, but not like on a motorcycle or a car shock, it has
2 different bushings inside. depending on placement it will
determine the load. One is hard, one in super hard. If you put
one, one way or another is makes it easier to move or not to
move. Granted this cant be checked by your hand. Also the
tighter you tighten the load screw the more the load increases
too.
just some info for you guys.

Guys, it's just a steering dampener that is used on bikes. If you can measure the length and stroke, you can get adjustable ones. You'll have to make your own bracket tho. Mine has 26 clicks! This is what I have on my bike.
I just intalled mine and whao I can really tell a difference. the car definitely feels a lot smoother. I think what makes some people feel a difference and some not is the condition of thier passenger side motor mount. I put in a nre motor mount when I replaced my engine about a year and a half ago so mine is in excellent shape. I think if you have a shot motor mount you are not going to be able to tell much of a difference.
Judging by the pics I have seen it appers that everyone is installing them a little different. I installed mine without flippining the fender bracket like fxxku did. I went to Lowe's and bought a 40mm 10x1.5 metric bolt. I would buy a 50 mm if I were to it again though. I used the longer bolt on the UIM bracket and added some nuts and washers as a spacer between the heim joint on the ETB and the bracket. This gave me some clearance for the rearward most bolt that is on the ABS unit. I also see that some people mounted the ETB with the "shock" side on the fender side and some people did it with the shock side on the manifold side. I put it on the manifold side because I thought it looked better that way. I can't really see much of a difference as far as function goes as to how you mount the brace yourself.
Overall I am very pleased with this unit. If you do not have a brace get one!! If you can't tell a differnce then you probably need a new motor mount. I too got mine from Jason's group buy and I highly reccomend doing business with him.

Normally I don't care about it but man, it has got to come in a better color then green.
So far as the shock effect, whats wrong with solid mounts?? Just a question since we are on the subject.

Please someone who actually has one, can you tell me what the deal is with vibrations and noise? I've always wanted one but have been warned that they make your car a lot louder on the inside and vibrate you to hell. I'm already not happy with how loud my car is so I don't really want much more. whats the deal?
