Just got my car dynotuned today, but....

Hello guys.

First of all, i hope you understand my english, i'm doing the best i can

I just got my car back from the dyno, with a very saddening result:
302 BHP and 387 NM at 0,7 bar of boost.

They said that it wouldn't help me much raising the boost pressure, but would you agree?

I was hoping for about 400 BHP at about 1 bar, so this is not anything near great news for me.

The specs is as follows (just the engine parts)
- Precision 5976 MFS turbo
- XS power manifold.
- NGK Bur9eqp spark plugs
- Custom downpipe.
- TurboSmart 44mm wastegate.
- HKS midpipe
- HKS Silent HiPower exhaust.
- HKS SPF 100mm filter.
- Aeromotive fuel pressure regulator.
- 2x 850cc fuel injectors primary
- 2x 1680cc fuel injectors secondary
- Bosch 044 fuel pump.
- V-mount kit from Hayward Rotary

Would i ever be able to reach 400 with that setup? or am i looking for a new turbo?
And about what boost should i go for?

Hope anyone can help in here.

Can you give us the specs on your turbo?

You know .7 bar is stock boost level right?

Thats a fairly small turbo and you're running way low on boost. I'm not saying 4.5 psi is going to net you 100 horsepower but whoever told you that it wouldn't help you much is on crack...

Yes seems that turbo is rather on the small side:

84 A/R

http://www.precisionturbo.net/turboc...-5976E-MFS/527

But even with that said, being above 10 psi (.7 bar) should not be past the turbo's efficiency range. In other words, increasing your boost level should net you some very favorable results. So change tuners if you can.

I have a gt35r on my car and with a 1.06 (so its geared more towards the top end) the car at 10 psi feels subdued. At 12 psi and now moving into what I assume is the efficiency range (butt dyno), its a whole different animal. The difference is night and day. At 15 psi (~1 bar) the car is a beast.

Edit- With that turbo I don't think your car will reach 400rwhp at 1 bar (14.7 psi). All that means is add AI and increase the boost

Hey again.

Yes, as Montego said, the specs is:
"E" compressor cover 3.0" inlet/2.0" outlet
T4 Tangential 96 A/R with 3 5/8" V-Band discharge

The only problem is, that he's one of the few guys who will actually even touch a RX7 on a dyno here in Denmark, as the rotary cars are considered really special around here.

Maybe i should try to raise the boost, on the streets (i have a HKS EVC 5 boost controller) and see what happens.

^^^ NO whatever you do don't do that!!!! as you are going to be practically begging for a blown engine.

What ECU do you have? You know there are tuners that perform remote tuning and maybe you can set something up. Keep note that something like that requires that you monitor your system very closely.

Oh, i was told that i could still run about one bar (running 0,7 now) and still be safe - i wasn't thinking about 1.5 bar or such things

I'm using a apexi power FC, and i did not know about the remote tuning. Do you know a company who does that?

ah ok... as long as your tuner said that it was ok. Because he is the one who has intimate knowledge of what his maps are doing. You scared me there because I thought you were just going to arbitrarily raise the boost beyond what you were tuned for.

I think Steven Kahn offers that service and a few others but just ask around. But IMO if your tuner actually said that you are good to go at 1 bar I would try that first before doing anything else. Just be careful before doing it, meaning don't just do 1 bar right off the bat. Go up up in increments and at a minimum, make sure your AFR's are in check.

Oh, no worries about me boosting it insanely that car is my love/relationship, but i would never "hurt it" like that
He told me, that IF i wanted to, the map was made so that right now, i'm running very safe in 0,7 var, and that it shouldn't be a problem, as long as i just keep an eye out for the numbers (which i've allways done)
I'll try to boost it up piece by piece first then thanks!

The .84 A/R and low boost is your problem. I recently had a car tuned a car with a mild street port and Precision 6266, but it had the .84 A/R hot side. I got to 406 rwhp at 20 psi with a conservative tune. You could feel the power dropping off past 7000 rpm and more boost wasn't really making much more power. I stopped there because I didn't know 100% the internals in that motor and it had stock seals. I usually recommend a 1.0 A/R on a rotary. That being said, you can definitely get more out of that setup with a little more boost and it should be super responsive.

Any updates on this setup? I'm looking into this same turbo but with a 1.00 divided turbine housing running close to 1 bar. Looking for a good budget street turbo with good response
