Those prices sound about right. The filter seems a little high, I would stick with the factory one, it's worked great for me so far. The thermostat should also be replaced with the stock Mazda part, the Miata part you heard about was the thermosensor, supposedly it turns the fans on at a lower temp than the stock replacement. Do a search on it and you should find some info.

thanks a lot JR. thermoswitch it is then. anyone know where else i can get the filter. i will be changing it every 15K miles and if i can find them cheap i will buy a few of them so i dont have to worry about it later. its fun calling up mazda and asking for parts though. they dont have a clue what to look for. mazda parts guy said that the plugs were 9.50 each and he doesnt know why mazda charges so much for them. he also stuttered when he asked my engine size and i said 1.3L. i was waiting for him to ask if it was a 3 or 4 cylinder next

Don't forget the fuel filter

The Fram is supposedly the same as the Mobil 1 filter. I forgot whos web site I got that from. You can get Taylor Pro wires from summit racing, which are better than stock shipped for about the same price. Instillation is what is going to hurt your wallet.

The fram is not the same as mobil 1. Fram filters are junk in my opinion. If you take one appart you will see the end caps inside are cheap cardboard. I use the purolator pure 1 filter listed for 2nd gen rx-7s. It is a larger filter than the tiny oem fd one. It goes for around $5 vs $10 for a mobil 1. I do use mobil 1 oil exclusively though.

Umm, I don't think the Mobil 1 and Fram oil filters are even close.. Fram filters are CRAP! You would be hard pressed to find a worse filter than Fram, Mobil 1 and Fram are worlds apart. And I hope the filter you are speaking of when you say you are going to replace it every 15k miles is the fuel filter and not the oil filter, using the same oil filter for 15k miles is a very bad idea.

i sure was talking about the fuel filter every 15K. it would be insane to even think about reusing the oil filter. any one think that the mobil 1 or bosch filters are even worth it. i think i will just stick with the OEM filter though.

Check out the link at the top of the page for Mazdaformance. You'll save $$$ buying the same parts through them (i.e. $7 plugs, $28 wires, etc.)

Hey Suprfast,

Call Ray at Malloy Mazda 1-888-533-3400 and tell him Scott sent you. He should beat all those prices.

The miata fuel filter is almost the same as the Rx7 filter and is a little cheaper. I read it in a post quite a while ago and the last filter I bought was for a miata and it fit fine. one of the outlets is angled a bit differently. Next time I do it though I am going to relocate the filter. That is one of the biggest pain in the asses to change. Especially for me I have short fat arms and they dont fit well trying to reach around the third member to change the filter. But I definately recomend relocating the fuel filter.

believe it or not, goto your local car shop, pep boys, auto zone, kragen, etc etc. They are usually pretty cheap. I'm paying $4/ plug right now
factory oil filter is 6.84 here in Santa Barbara, CA.

Talking

Guys,

Not sure how much he will charge you, but I have been getting parts from Almaden Mazda in San Jose.
The guy name is Ralph Hatley, and his email is: ralphh@dgdg.com

Tell him that Reza refer you, and he should be giving you price of 20% above cost. He is the Parts Manager at Almaden Mazda. He is knowledgable about RX-7 and rotaries.

I have good experience so give him a call

Let me know,
Reza

so i should just go down to napa and check out the prices there? i work at autozone and dont have any listings for spark plugs. only wires i can get are bosch, but i would rather have NGK. the fuel filters are deutch(how ever you spell it). is that comparable to what the stock is. i know that aftermarket isnt always better, but then again, if you can buy it at an autoparts store its isnt technically aftermarket. OEM is pretty damn good for the most part. what is the part #'s for the NGK platinums. i want to get those. there are two different plugs right. a 7 and a 9.

Yeah get it from Mazdaperformance. Use the ad link on the forum so this forum gets credit for the traffic! They seem to have excellent prices on many sale items. Since you are getting a whole bunch of stock parts, the shipping shouldn't be too bad. Mallory Mazda is cheap too.

Suprfast, your prices from the first post are pretty expensive. Every dealer sell parts at different prices so check some of the other dealers around Merced. Probably SJ area if you don't want to mail order.
