Question for you: why did the guy move the battery to the trunk? That's 4-6 hours of work and not to be taken lightly.
I would guess that:
(a) you got a great deal
or
(b) someone disconnected the speedometer, installed all the go fast parts and drove it like stink for the last 14 years; blew engine, installed reman, re-installed all the stock parts and sold it on ebay.
