June issue EUROPEAN CAR pits 1000hp FD against new Jaguar
I got all excited when I saw this in my latest EUROPEAN CAR magazine. Typically, the Japanese cars are regarded in somewhat the same light as a turd in a punchbowl at a wedding in this magazine. SO it was neat to see, right? Well, no...the FD had a modified LSA V8 swap. An incredibly modified LSA (see below) making "well in excess of 1000 hp" against the stock 550 hp Jag.
LSA aluminum block bored to 4.065", doweled billet main caps, Callies Magnum 4" crank and 6.125" Ultra Billet rods, asymmetric JE FSR -5cc pistons, ACL race bearings, ARP Pro Series studs and bolts, GM MLS gaskets, Comp Cams boost cam, double-roller billet timing set, short-travel race lifters, trunnion bearing rocker upgrade and front cover, Improved Racing oil pump baffle, Jordan Innovations oil filter relocation, Accusump and oil cooler, West Coast Cylinder Heads CNC ported heads, 10.25:1 compression 75cc chambers, hollow-stem stainless steel valves, double valve springs, titanium retainers, Manton pushrods, GM LS3 intake manifold and DBW throttle body, Vortech V7-YSi supercharger with Camaro bracket and 50mm cog drive, 80-tooth crank sprocket, 28-tooth blower sprocket, Turbosmart Big Bubba 50mm BOV, PowerGate 60mm wastegate, Jordan Innovations intercooler and piping, AEM Infinity engine management, Injector Dynamics ID2000 injectors, FAST fuel rails, Bosch 044 pump, Jordan Innovations surge tank, Fuelab 424 pump, filters and 529 digital regulator, 10an/8an feed/return hard lines, Jordan Innovations mil-spec harnesses and gauges

And the Jag won.
One out of three races, anyway.

Haha, yeah, definitely not representing a 'factory' Mazda by any means. Got the invite because they had this cool Jag (1 of 25!) and wanted to do something fun with it, then when they heard what I was bringing they knew they'd lose but wanted to do it anyway.
The "JefeFD" as we call it is a full-interior, Modified-class time attack/roadrace car, not a drag car by any means, and that afternoon at Irwindale Speedway was the first time we'd ever:
1) mounted true street tires (NT05's)
2) used traction control (built into the AEM EMS, but not set up/tuned)
3) run the car down the drag strip
The first run was with no traction control and was a total spin-fest, but that's what they wanted. The Jag won. The second run we did a little more of a burnout and turned traction control on with a large allowable slip, and started in second, ran pretty good. Third run we pulled the Jag by two or three cars and let off a little past half track haha. The car would have gone into the 6's (1/8mi) but we got kicked out for being too loud after the third run.
It lost almost all of it's JDM appeal and gets very 'mixed reviews' here on the Club whenever it's posted, but it sure is a lot of fun to drive

The car we'd be competing against was a 1994 Mazda RX-7 (FD gen) from Jordan Innovations in Irwindale, CA. Owner Jeff Jordan had swapped in a Vortech-supercharged LSA V8 on AEM Infinity engine management. It was rated "in excess of" 1000whp and had a modified BRS Autodesign widebody to ensure it could accept 295/35 R18 Nitto NT-05 tires all the way round, providing ample traction.

Yup, we ran stock brakes until we finished designing and machining brackets/etc for the new 14"F / 13"R Wilwood setup we sell. Ran 1:18.0 @ Streets of Willow on the stock brakes too (on R-comps) but it was scary.
The first run was laughable. No traction control on NT05s with, yes, 1k+hp. The magazine editor asked for a run they could win, I offered one with no traction control, and we all lol'd. It runs 'a bit' faster than that...
