jumping tach needle problem, easy fix??

Lately, my tach needle has been jumping around. Anyone experience this?? I was told that it was a common occurance with 3rd gen's.

What are the possible causes and possible easy fixes??? From what I understand, there are two speed sensors that the tach uses to calibrate rpm's. Are they easy to get to??? if the sensors are fine, what other components could it be faulty?

how old is your clutch.... if it's got a lot of miles on it that can cause it as well.

there is a speed sensor under the car where the transmission is but I forget if it affects the tac also I know it tells the actual speed.
Also you can take off the gauge cluster and look behind the tac and see if the main connector is still in place and that all the wires are still strong on it.

you didn't touch anything? this just started happening?

Mine is fucked up too. It reads 2500 higher than normal.
So my redline is like 10K rpm!

I'll dig out my mazda dealership workshop manual and trace the sensors. Did I touch anything? No, but it started immediately after I had my master cylinder hose replaced with a stainless steel one at Mostly Mazda. I called to see if perhaps they might have caused it while working on the hose, but they said that there is no tach cable, and that it was a eletronic problem, which was quite common with 3rd gen's. Kyle said that if it did not bother me too much, to leave it for now, for it could get costly to fix....
