Talking jap pre-cat

just a quick one guys,,,ive got a jap/ rx7 (1993),, i hear some guys telling me this car doesnt have a pre-cat on,,,is this true,,
if it does because its right hand drive i need to know which downpipes are available to me,,,, i know the HKS one fits,,is there any others. im ready to buy a down pipe dpnt want to make any mistakes.
(only mods so far,,,,cat back exaust)

Have you looked for the pre-cat? Shouldn't be too hard to find out if you have it.

honestly it looks like a cat to me,,,its more than just a piece of pipe,,,its quite big and heavy,,,,should have looked inside it when i had it off... ill replace it any how,,,,,im interested in getting them under bonnet tempratures down,,, can anyone tell me what pipes i can use with right hand drive,,,,pleasseee

I dont think the down pipes are universal , meaning RHD to LHD. Because the stearing shaft runs between the precat and fender. I think Knight sports sells one that has two tubes so that it can have more volume but does not have to be wider.

Since your getting a new DP and wish to keep under hood temps down, you might want to consider having the DP heat-coated and/or wrapping it prior to installation. This will also significantly reduce those temps.

The Japanese cars do have a pipe with no cat where the American pre-cat would be. It is still restrictive, heavy, etc., but looks kind of like a cat with the heat shielding and everything on it.

I'd probably just get the HKS downpipe - it's easy to get, very well built, and was designed for right-hand drive cars, so it will fit your car great.
