Jacking up a 3rd gen?
Jacking up a 3rd gen?
Ok, so the factory jacl on a third gen sucks, so I decide to use my 2 1/4 ton hydraulic jack to change the front tires. So I get everything ready grab my jack, and look under the car..... 20 minutes of looking later, and I still can't find a safe place to use the jack! I'm sure some of you have done the same thing, and have found solutions, where can I safely use this jack on thew front of my car? Descriptions and or diagrams will be much appreciated. Thanks for the help/

What I did is put my flat tire jack under the normal jack point and raised it up all the way then proceeded to put my 2 ton jack under my car that also had a piece of 2x4 set on it to cushion the metal from damage. When the car was raised I put my jack stands under one of the crossmembers located near the oil pan. what the point looks like is a dip in part of the metal crossmember that had either a nut or a bolt in the center of it... (I'm not to sure). Make sure you lower the car on to these jack stands using common sence because you have to postion the stand in a perticular way to prevent slipping and make sure you lower it slowly. then repeat on the other side.... Good luck

Look behind the control arms on the floorpan, and you will see a section where the subrame is attached to the body. You can use the jack there.
It's not hard to miss. It is a solid piece of frame that blends into the body.

here is what me and my brother do, we have recently bought ramps made by blitz. its called blitz rhino ramps and we drive it on to them. my car is dropped 2 inches in the front plus i have a body kit making the front end only 5 inches off the ground. i have tried to use the regular metal ramps with the extensions but they almost cracked my body kit off!!! in any case, wiht these ramps, i can safely get on to the ramps which a litttle modification (i used the plastic extnesions from the yellow ramps) these ramps are sold at walmart and other places, if you order on line from them it will cost you 50 bucks but at walmart they are only 30 bucks (real damn cheap)!!! once we get the car on the jack we use a floor jack with a peice of wood about 4 inches by 10 inches and jack on the crossmembers located near the oil pan. we use to wood as to not hurt the crossmember. this should look like a bar with about 3 holes drilled in it the size of half dollars, about an inch in diamater. we then put safty jack stands under the a frame where it connects to the body as well as under the crossmember. never get under a car with out a jack stands cuz the low high of a fd will crush you! infact any car will crush you! we leave the ramps there too because they can sopposedly handel 12000 lbs, about 6 tons.
