Its time to decide...
Ok, ive been waiting to buy a new car for well over a year. I finaly got the money, and through all this time ive been obsessed with the rx-7.
This car that i am about to buy will be my daily driver from my house to college (not very far, 5 miles) for the next 4 years of my life. I am not a motor head, but i sure as hell want to be ( i can learn ^_^).
I need to know if buying an rx-7 is right for me. Theres no way in hell ne one is going to talk me into buying a honda or some ****. there are multiply rx-7s i have lined up, most have: new engine, basic performance upgrades, and about 90k on the chassis.
I dont plan to upgrade or mod any further than they are except for exterior/interior styling. I hear people say "blah blah its not reliable" what does reliable mean? (im willing to take the time to take care of it, ex: turbo cool down/ warm up, etc..) What type of repairs might i need? and will a 7 last me that long, with a new engine, assuming its in good shape.
Im not going to be driving it hard, most likly never will go to track or heavy duty race. maby just push it on an open road.
If not, im going to have to hang my head low and search for another sport car for under 14k. 300zx, 3000Gt are some of my other choices.
Any input or help would great ^_^

All your questions will be answered there...at least most of them.
RX7 isn't the most reliable car ever build of course but if it's in a good condition you'll be fine by just doing some reliability mods, and some knowledge on rotary engines how they work...also somethings about the turbo setup and know how to do the proper maintenance(frequent oil changes,oil filter,service) will help.
All your questions will be answered there...at least most of them.

only advice i can give to you, is be prepared to spend some quality time in ur garage if something goes wrong, and RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH! Knowing the car like the back of ur hand makes just about anything u'd need to do a simple task. In short, a rx7 is right for you as long as u give it some TLC and know what ur getting into.
As a fellow college student I recommend you realize the trade offs you have to make..the ones I had to make
1)When it snows...I'm walking. So I moved apartments prior to purchase right across from campus so the car never has to see foul weather.
2) When you want to go out with your friends, you arent driving anymore. When I had my Sube..I always drove because I never had to depend on someone else to get home, needless to say..my friends don't fit in this one!
3)The car will go down, things will break, you will need to baby it. Get a job cause it's gona cost you.
4)This is not the first car I've wrenched on, and am glad. If I opened an FD hood my first time wrenching I'd be scared as all hell. It is good to have a general idea of what you are doing on these cars before doing it.
5)The links above will explain the reliability mods, pen them into your budget as well as other cash to fix other things you find on the way. Even the most pristene FD will need work from time to time, so if this car is cherry don't think nothing is wrong with it.
6)Did I mention FDs are pigs and deathtraps on ice? Some people drive no prob on it, but do you really want to?
7)remember the budget i talked about before. If pre-purchase you have planned to buy the Fast and Furious body kit, neon lights, subs, racing seats and a CF shift ****, STOP!!!! (not saying that is your plan, but that is not uncommon if 'I gotta have an FD' posts) That isn't going to happen until you shake the car down for a bit, unless you have endless amounts of cash sitting around. Or you could blow all your cash on those parts, then realize other things NEED fixed and it's time for debt.
So, anyways..that is, except for (7), what I had to consider before my purchase. My buddies ask me if I mind the things I gave up. I'm able to say no because I gave it a good long time to think over, i recommend you do the same.

If u only gonna be doing like 5 miles to and from college then **** it, if u really want a rx-7 theres not really much any1 can say or do to stop u. and if its out of action then just hitch or walk , its only 5 miles hehe (rather u than me, and besides isn't there public transport as a really last resort lol) so who cares man, its the passion not the reliability and if u passionate u will make it reliable and only u can make it last for yourself, so do it, **** a honDUH!

seldon, that is not rice. Its safety. That way, no matter how much u get on it, the wheels will not break loose. And who in the right mind uses all of their 255hp in ICE and SNOW anyway? ...seriously

I too drove mine in the winter. Little hard if you stop on a hill in the ice, but other than that it's no different than any other car.
