Move your battery and your intake, it will fit. I would not bother, just upright the radiator and mount it in front.

BUT...

Too much custom work involved, brackets and piping, if you have the money just buy a kit.

I think in another post someone comments on the pressure drop across the core is pretty high, in the 2 psi range. Search for the thread since if thats the case, it'd be dumb to use it unless you get it done dirt cheap. Otherwise your turbos are going to hate you for it since most of the IC made for our cars are around 1 or less for a good IC. They'd have to make 17 or more from the turbo outlet for the engine to see 14 psi and the intake charge will be hotter.

Thanks for the info Tim Benton, I didn't know that. I was going to do the NPR intercooler 'cuse I know a lot tow companies and I can probably get a used one for dirt cheap if when they wreck their trucks but now I'll just wait and buy a real one.

look at some of the fastest cars out there and see what they run. i have seen plenty of car comming from puerto rico with them on there. they cant be that bad for a 7 second car to be running it.

well, a big single making 500 plus HP is one thing since the big single doesn't have to work as hard or heat up the air as much at the same psi. They can get away with it for that reason, but for a daily driver or weekend fun car with twins, your just wearing the turbos and engine out faster with increased intake temps due to the poor flow across the IC. Don't half *** it and get a 50 IC and think its fine compared to...well anything made for the car. Otherwise, Pettit, M2, ASP, Greddy, PFS, HKS and all the other ones would have used the core and made piping to fit if it was worth a damn. If you don't mind that it's a poor design and need to save money or can't spend the money on a used IC in the 500 to 700 range, then go for it.

looking through old posts, you have conflicting data as to the pressure drop issue. In one thread that Jerk_racer post some great data for the NPR's, and again the same data reposted by Rotaryrx2 7 in another thread is contested by KevinK2's reply about the pressure drop. So nothing concrete at to that part of using it. I do remember something about 2psi drop but only looked through old posts for about 10 mins and found the above info.

I don't have any info on pressure drop, but performance wise I am very satisfied. My only measure is intake temp now compared to smic, the difference is substantial.

what are you using to compare intake temps?

Used PFC and datalogit to compare before and after. Of course the outside temp was a variable, but even on the hottest days I would see temps no higher than 29 C. Before I would creep into the 50's if I'm not mistaken. I would have to go back and look at some old logs to give the exact numbers from before.

That 29 also includes a couple of track days with outside temps in the 50's and 60's F. Sorry mixing C and F.

although the PFC is a great ecu, I've got one, comparing the air temp it displays is pretty much worthless due to heat soak of the sensor in the bottom of the UIM. Even during runs, when you know the air is getting heated up by the turbos (when compared to vacuum situations) it's extremely slow to react and show temp changes. So with that in mind, the only real way to compare IC is before and after with thermocouplings getting readings.

I agree with your comments about heat soak and the inaccuracy of the IAT sensor because of it. Keep in mind I was not trying to test the intercooler, just observations I made before and after because I was surprised in the difference it made.

Heat soak or not, if my IAT is consistently lower, then the intercooler is doing a better job. Would you say that due to heat soak my temps are now always lower? I think not.

Last week I drove to work with ambient temps around 35 F. The water temp was about 82 C, and the IAT never exceeded 11 C! That included a couple pulls running 18psi all the way to redline in 3rd. No heat soak there, or my temp sensor is broken.

Bottom line is if temps are lower consistently with the same sensor in the same location then the intercooler is better at cooling.

check the pressure drop of the stock ic and then you won't feel bad getting the npr one

true Matt, good observation. I tried to figure out the voltage the sensor gives in the sensor/switch section but there's not really enough info. F-31 in the manual.
the resistance at 68F is 2.2-2.7 and at 185F is .29-.35.

Anyone know how to break down the voltages you see into something a little more accurate?

So, did we say that the NPR can fit as a stock mount? The large or the medium? I want to get one soon, but can't decide which one. I don't want to front mount it because I am going to road race. The medium will fit as kind of a hmic/vmount, but the problem I see is that it is so wide that it doesn't leave much room for the intake. Does the large fit as a smic like the M2 does? Thanks.

YES it will fit. the large mounted infront of the rad does cause some minor fitment issues. depending on the place you plan on mounting it, there can be less room for intake. look under the coming soon section on www.KGParts.com for some pics of a setup i was planning on making to sell for the large NPR. (that is what size is pictured in that car)

for what to buy it new? new its like $800-900 last i checked. at that rate, you cna get a bolt on kit from a major manufature and not have to worry about mocking up brackets, pipes and relocating the PS line yourself.... if buying it new, its not worth it IMO. it is used as a *cheaper* alternative to a kit for those who know how to use things they have sitting around to make their own *kit*. if you are going to save $10 after all said and done, why go through the headache?

So Keith, I checked out what you have on the website and it looks really cool but I have a question. Wouldn't there be the same cooling issues as a regular front mount? What I would like to do is stock mount the NPR and not relocate the radiator. Do you think that would work? Just trying to figure out what I am going to do here.

sure you can. why no? it would just require runnig the pipes different. and different brackets, no?

I just was not sure if the NPR Large would be too tall to fit as a SMIC without interfering with the hood. I guess I will buy one and make it work, if not I will just get a medium and mount it horizontal then run the intake down into the nose somewhere. You got any npr's for sale? isuzutruckparts.com quoted my 175 for the medium and 250 for the large. Is that a good price?

thats like average going price. about what i could do for you. but i do no have any at the moment. maybe today i will take a drive and see what i can get. there are like 3 guys who want them and have been waiting for me but i havent gotten the time to get them. you should not have a problem with the large in that location. the radiator clears standing straight up, the IC will as well....
