Question Intermittent loss of power?

What kind of things might cause an occasional - but not permanent - loss of power?
(i.e. heat affected components etc.)

TIA

do you have a boost controller? if not get one and make sure you are building boost. if you are making full boost 8-10 lbs then where are you loosing power in the rpm band? top end (after 4500 rpm) or before? the first thing to check is the vacume lines especally the one that goes to the turbo controll solonoid. the best thing is to go through and replace the lines with 3mm silacone vacum lines the best thing to do is find a good shop that can do this for you because it is a pain i did all the lines my self, but i used to be a mazda mechanic at a dealership. let me know the area you are in and i might be able to recomend someone to you. or if you are up to it i can send you the diagram to do it your self. the vacum lines are prone to cracking because of the heat under the hood. do you have a turbo timer? if not get one or let the car run at idle for at least a minute and a half this will disapate the heat. and pineapple racing of portland, or. or corksport of portland, or. have evans npg coolant that is the mac daddy of coolant it eliminates all!!!!! of the over heating problems. but it costs 25 bucks a gallon u will need to have a respictable shop do the coolant swap because you can not can not can not mix it with watter or regular coolant you can ask eigther of the above shops any furter questions. hit me back with the answers to my questions. give me a detailed write up on what happens when you loose power and i will help u narrow it down. but consider the mods i have said even if it is not the problem.

Thanks for the response 'x'. I've taken care of most of the reliability mods on my car.

I don't have enough info to post details about my specific symptions yet. I'm in the process of getting a boost guage now.

At this point, my post is more to unveil some general knowledge about parts of the system that CAN appear okay sometimes and not at others.

I guess a possible example might include a heat soaked IC.
