intermitant idling problem

I am new to this forum. Hope someone out there has seen my problem. I am having a idling problem with my 93 RX-7. It is intermitant. When I pull to a stop, the car idles fine. Then, sometimes, within 10 or 15 seconds, the idle drops to 100-200rpm. It fluctuates up and down from one to three times, then either settles down to a good idle or dies. This is my second engine with 58K miles (the first lasted 150K). It runs great except for the weird idle. It has new plugs, wires, and the throttle body has been cleaned. The car is stock except for a downpipe. It has run great until this problem appeared about 10k miles ago. Nothing was done to the car at that time. The problem appeared out of no where! Any ideas??

If you can, do some testing and see if it happens when you press the clutch pedal in...

Several people have had idling problems with the car stalling and the clutch switch has been a known culprit.

BTW, being in Texas you have some great rotary shops in the state:

Thanks for the info. I checked out the thread on the clutch switch. My idle problem seems to be independent of the clutch in or out, AC on or off. I will however, check the switch and replace it if necessary. The only thing else I can think of, is the problem usually only appears when it is hot. Texas is HOT alot!! Thanks

You might also check your ISC solenoid (Idle Speed Control). Solenoids are also known to have problems working when they get hot as they get older.

Good luck!

My rotary specialist here in Austin checked it and said it was ok, but I am not sure if he checked it under hot conditions. I will have it checked again. Thanks.
