Interior Passenger SIDE GRIP

Hi

I bought a (new) passenger door grip to fit on my 1993 FD. It get my home and i notice that colour was much more lighter them my old one and i nottest that it has a smooth texture on it.

will try to put pictures, but can you help me on the diferences between 1993 and 1994 + up models?

Can someone post pictures so i can see clearly the diferences?

Many thanks

93 has a smooth finish that is known to peel.
94 and up has a textured finish.

He's asking about the finish of the handle grip itself, not the plastic panels.

Hi

I contact Ray and he told that new 1993 RH grip has a smooth texture. He also said that with time and clean it will be like my old one.... more darker.

The new part i have has FD01 in the back and a something like rubber finish on it, so (i guess) it is 1993.

Hope he is right about that. Only tomorow i can put pictures.... Anyone has pictures that shows the diferences?

Thanks

Filipe

Disregard my previous post. I thought you were talking about the texture of the entire panel. Thanks for clarifying habu2.

I just checked my '94 grip and my '93 grips that I have. The '93 grips both have a smooth feel while the '94 grip feels a little bit more rough. The '94 is lighter in color and the '93 is darker. They must have changed the material they used in '94.

I'll wait for the pictures. I think he must be talking about the whole thing as you can't buy just the "grip" without the black plastic unit that fits into the door panel.

Hi

Sorry the delay but here goies the pictures abou what i am saying. I think i have a 1994 RH grip handle, not a 1993.

Can anyone give me the 1993 Mazda part number for it?

Is it a 1993 or a 1994 in your opinion?

Thanks

Filipe

Filipe, I wish I could tell you for sure. All I know is....I have only seen black versions of that particular unit. The COLOR from year to year was only black as far as I know. The TEXTURE did indeed change with the '94 - '95 models, as the '93 interior paint was prone to coming off easily.
Keep bumping this for a few days...see if anyone can help. Lots more people on the Forum during the week.

That is really weird Filipe! I've had a bunch of '93 and '94+ fully original plastic pieces over the years and I've never seen one look like the one you have. The color kind of looks like the latest model rx-7's that were produced.

Ray knows his stuff, but I'm sort of skeptical as to how exactly this piece will darken and look like the one you currently have?!?

You should send those pictures to Ray. His email is hmkparts@aol.com I've never seen anything like that before. Maybe Mazda made a new manufacturing run and screwed up the color? I know they were getting low on interior pieces last summer when I was converting to '94+ interior.

I've bought the same part from Ray, and it was definitely black, not grey.
