alright

i went to a friends house today (austinfd) and he helped me out a bit

we located his TNS relay (if you have the stock intake set up, its under that big blaack plastic piece. sorry, i forget the name for it hehe.)

we took the TNS relay out, and checked to see if it would light up. it didnt light up.

he tried my TNS relay from my rx7 and it worked. i tried his TNS relay from his rx7 and it didnt work.

from what we saw, one of the wires could have been clipped, such as Gouki7.

Gouki, how did you fix it? give me the details if you can please. pictures would be excellent as well -D

What did you see? Did you see clipped wires?

Gouki7, any idea why they were clipped? Mod gone bad? Or were they worn through?

silylanjie, you've got a wiring problem. Install any gauges lately?

we unscrewed the screws holding down the relay box and tried to turn it over without pulling too hard on the wires. when we put a light there, it seemed there was a wire that was just dangling there. we couldnt confirm if it was a wire or not, but im gona try again later today.

Nice thread I found by searching abit. I am having sort of the same problem. I noticed today as I was driving my FD at night that my guage lights were not on once I turned my flip lights on. My rear brake lights were not on either unless I hit the brake pedal. Although my odometer light is working along with the highbeam interior light. Tomorow I will check all interior fuses and my TNS box and see if I can locate the problem.

had same problem

alright guys... I had the same EXACT problem. What happened was that the 15A or 10A fuse was blown (can't remember which)... anyways, something had to cause it to blow. What it was, was a pinched wire running from my boost gauge to the ashtray light. I ran it through the a-pillar, through the console, and through the tranny console. When I put it back together, the tranny bolt tightened on the wire and stripped it and caused it to short. So...... check all your wires.... it may not be in the same spot as mine, but check for shorted out wires... Did you add something new lately?

I had the same problem

I was installing a boost gauge and when i was hooking up the ground and lighting wires i caused a short. I was trying to wire the boost gauge light to the ash tray light to make it able to dim. well after this i noticed my gauges did not light up and niether did my tail lights or front lights where turn signals are, but when my headlights fliped up they did work and when I hit the brakes the brake lights worked? wierd? i checked all fuses in the engine bay and they were fine i checked all the wires and they were fine. I then checked my dimmer by swapping it with another 7 and it fixed everything. The dimmer happens to also have a long fuse box behind it when you take it out. check this out and if you need it replaced call Malloy Mazda they have them i forgot price though?

let me know if this works?

I just had the same damn thing happen to me. I was doing the fan switch mod. Lost the boost guage light. So i went to go fix that, coincidentaly I also have mine vampired off the ashtary light. So get that wired up still no light. Excpet now no dash gauge or a/c panel lights either. I'll trace all the wires and look for pinches and chek over the dimmer switch and the TNS relay. I'll update once I find the problem. Thanks for sharing the info.

Ok so i need a picture of this tns relay mine has slowly went dead. Now it dont work at all. Any help. First off is this fuse relay box, actually a black plastic box, or are they just bolted to a thin sheet of metal in front of the radiator.

I just took out the switch panel, center panel, as well as the guage hood and cluster assembly. So I put the center and switch panels back in, but since the guage hood assembly is the biggest PITA to put in and remove I decided to just take the guages and put them back in to make sure everything tested out ok.

I have a dark spot in my speedometer at around 40-55 mph so I was trying to see if I could kill two birds with one stone while I had everything apart. I was just poking around trying to figure out what lights lit up what and to see if I could make the guages green to match the Defis. I THINK the four larger twist out ports that hold the wedge type bulbs are the ones, but shining a Mag Lite through barley showed through, but it made me think that was probably the lights that I was looking for.

I decided to just hold off on changing bulbs to later on, but was wondering if these were directional bulbs in any way, because when I get in my car and put the key into the 'AUX On' position then the odometer and warning lights come on as well as the "overheat exhaust system" light on the center panel.

Then if I turn the turn signal lever a click forward (parking lights position) the odometer turns off and the guages remain off, but the bumper lights turn on as well as the tail lights.

If I turn it one more position everything remains the same (including the head lights remaining down). I was thinking that was because since I just have the guage assembly hooked up I was wondering if the headlight retractor switch (top left on the guage bezel in the lower picture) was a part of that system.

Thanks for any help and info. I actually switched the wedge lights around to move the dim/potential out bulb (filament looked good to me) more toward the warning lights area so that if there was a dim spot it wasn't right where I needed to be able to see a pretty common speed limit cruising mph on the speedo.

Haha well this is fun...thanks again for any help.

It's alive!

Ok well it's user error. I didn't have the clip attached to the dimmer...hooked it up and voila. Then I realized the center panel wasn't lit up. Doh. Haha so I took the switch panel back out and unscrewed the center panel and got the two small black plugs connected, hooked up the large white opaque connectors together and hooked up, and the black connector to the dimming switch.

Seems like I have more loose connectors now, but might just be my imagination.

Where do these three go? Is it all for the headunit (mine came without one so I've never had a point of reference to compare to.

There's also this guy over over here...I just have a faux switch/button (R1 Model) so I don't know what's supposed to go there, but can't find a home for this connector.

And finally...where's this light go? I remember pulling it out, but it was so tight I don't remember where I pulled it from.

Oh and after I reinstall the whole cluster assembly (with the headlight retractor switch on the top left) should the headlights then come up? Haha sorry I just want to check things out as I think it's going to be a pain to reinstall all the connectors with the hood attached. Thanks again.
