Interested in buying a 93 touring
hey i found this great rx-7 locally and he says
no mods
Engine compression test was excellent
all service up to date
65k miles
original miles on engine and compression came out better then normal
New turbos rebuilt
vacum hoses are being replaced with silicon ones.
rear main seal is being replaced
apex seals are said to be good
and i think he said this car doesn't need a rebuild
Now when i go to see the car what questions should i ask him?
how much would a rebuild be if it came to that later down the road?
how can i be sure about the apex seals?
What should i watch out for?

...before you end up calling him a ***** F*#$ing liar...do a carfax...also DMV website in California enables one to check vehicle smog history cor CA smogged cars...maybe Alabama DMV does too???
...regarding mods...look for spliced wires and mixed matched and missing nuts and bolts......find some nice stock engine bay pics online, print them and bring them with you
...regarding engine look for a rebuilt tag on front engine cover...take it to a dealer and view compression test in person...or at least bring a vacuum guage, hook it up and see what it reads...should be higher that 16.
...look for paint overspray or varying tones...bring a refridgerator magnet and see if it clings to any odd looking painted areas on fenders, doors, quater panels and roof.
...b4 u buy....take some high resolution clear pics and post them
...before you buy it...consider the fact that you may need to become a good FD mechanic or know one...
...kick the tires, so that sales man thinks you know what your doing...

If the compression is good then the seals should be good. Overall the car sounds good but I have one caveat about buying a car that is just about to have work done: if it needs work, how do you know what is supposedly broken will be fixed by the work to be done? Its common for owners about to sell a car to play off existing problems as minor and promise to fix them before selling the car. I would wait until after all the work is done, then test drive it and have it inspected to make sure everything is indeed fixed. Luckily the items in progress (vacuum lines and rear main seal) are very common repairs. However, once all the repair work is done, I would verify NO LEAKS, NO SMOKING, NO FLUID CONSUMPTION and CORRECT BOOST PATTERN before purchasing the car. If it checks out in these areas, and looks good cosmetically (see above advice), that is worth a premium since most cars cannot pass this test with flying colors.
