Looks like there is only 2 intake options out there for the stock twins: Apexi and HKS.
I have heard that are issue with design of the HKS mushroom filters but not sure how true they are, HKS are also couple hundreds dollar more then Apexi.
Or, if you’re still running the stock IC, simply modify the stock air box ala ‘Cheap Bastard’ and maybe a K & N panel filter. Then cap the hole in the top of the stock duct. Better air supply for the IC, better air for the intakes and invisible if you have visual emissions testing in your state. Search for details.
Don't know if the Greddy intake is still available, that's a nice kit with hard pipes and everything.
Most any setup won't be a true cold air setup. Make a heat shield and fab up a duct and there ya go.
Pettit's heat shield is $5 of hardware store aluminum.
IMHO the "nicest" intake is the HKS but boy you can pay good money for it. Really nice design. You can put K&N universal filters on it, I've been running mine like that for ages.
BTW an intake DOES make good power on an FD. Wakes up the top end nicely. The stock airbox is just a giant pain in the ***. I was more excited about never having to deal with that giant bastard again than the performance gain.

Yes but RHD Japan won’t tell you which greddy kit it is. There’s a high grade polished kit with cast end tanks and smooth transitions, and there’s an ugly version with welded seams and rough transitions.
I’ve been after them for a month about it, and they keep arguing there’s only one style, when their pictures show both styles.
Please reach out to them and ask for actual pictures of what will be delivered. Spec R cores should be HG, or High Grade. I haven’t been able to get a straight answer. Yes, this is more than a cosmetic difference.

Well if your turbo(s) are still sucking its air intake from the hot under hood air off the backside of your IC, as opposed to from cooler air sourced from the front side of the heat exchangers, your big-*** V-mount IC won't be nearly as efficient as you might think it is. You'll soon discover that when you start logging IATs and end up wondering why your IATs are still sky high after investing in an expensive V-mount IC solution.

I run the carbon M2 that brekyrself posted. They are hard to find and expensive. They do pull cold air from the bumper inlet right next to the radiator. CX racing does make a copy that seems ok. I do not have any personal experience with it but do have the piping they include and that seems decent for the price. It’s a no for open elements in the engine bay for me. When I say anywhere, I met using the intake piping/routing that comes with the Greddy kit. I hope no one puts the intakes right on top of the IC. Bad choice of words on my end.
There is no way an Autoexe ram air intake with the stock IC (or any after-market side mount IC) is more efficient than a Greddy v-mount using the intakes from the Greddy kit. Unless you reroute the intakes right on top of the v-mount IC, then yes, I would agree.

Are you sure there are two types? I also checked on Nengun. Full VII is listed for sale for $2k. Fan extension harness is also half price vs sakebomb. Picture looks like the nice version. I thought the nice version replaced the old version, idk why they would still sell two different versions.
Ok. Pretty sure only one Greddy vmount available, not two types. There are two part numbers (1 for 93-95, another for 96+ for the y pipe change). Part numbers on nengun match greddy’s website. Sakebomb partnumbers are outdated.

FYI the only real difference I know of between the 93-95 kit and the 96+ kit is the 96+ kit has a cast elbow thing that bolts onto the later Y-pipe (the "Efini y-pipe") - it's a 2 bolt flange. The earlier kit just has a 90 that hooks to the Y-pipe with a silicone coupler.
I think in the big Greddy V-mount thread they talk about variations between the kits as well.
Really, on a turbo car, the intercooler does the heavy lifting. Don't be an idiot and put the intake where it's just getting super hot air but don't kill yourself if it's not a cold air intake. Get some fresh air ducted to it, make a heat shield, call it a day. Cold air intakes make a MUCH bigger difference on non-turbo cars. When you have a turbo that's compressing the air and adding 100+ degrees of heat just by compression a 20 degree difference in air temp at the filters isn't as big of a deal.
Pro way to go: Good IC, duct/heat shield for intake, basic water injection kit like AEM. Done. Car will have amazing intake air temps and you aren't over-thinking it, re-inventing the wheel, or stuck in "I don't know what to do".
Autoexe with Abflug bumper with metal divider, dividing intake upper air from lower radiator air in the bumper = ZERO hot radiator air or hot under hood air entering the engine. Only fresh outside air. Also, have a 600 cfm intake puller fan mounted inside the Autoexe with a temperature-controlled fan speed system (don't need the fan pulling when the car is moving)
