instructions 99 spec tail light conversion

Anyone have some detailed instructions on how to do your own 99 spec tail lamps? I know the process, just wondering about the exact dimensions and placement of the template/circles for painting.

Use an oven. It takes less then 4 min at 375 to soften the glue.
Use a heat gun if you want to be sitting there for 30min per light.

i have done over 60 pairs..... do not use the oven!!!!!

it takes 2-3 minutes with the heat gun... only use the oven if you have dont it before!

again, i warm you, the lense gets soft and while it cools down, it changes shape.

also, how would you put it back? in the oven i suppose?

But you also have a greater risk of melting part of the taillights when they are in the oven. I used the heat gun and would recommend it... it does take time and patience though.

what lots of time... i timed myself and it takes 2-3 minutes per light MAX.... i dont know if its because i have done so many but if the heat gun is new and working, it should not take much more than that!

I haven't done 60....but quite a few

The oven idea is fine and faster. Put them back in to soften the glue, then reseal with your own bead of silicone. Done...45 min. project.

Well I have only done my set of taillights, and it took good amount of time per a light, but I was being very careful not to deform the light. A buddy of mine did the conversion and ended up deforming the light slightly when he pulled the inner housing off after heating the silicone. When I did it I made sure I took my time and did it right the first time. This is, however, only my experience. If you say it only takes 2-3 minutes with a good heat gun then I won't argue...

I did only mine and the heat gun worked fine. Heck, I kept the gun on the low setting and it only took me a few minutes per lens. I would definitely stay away from the oven, you can't control the heat at all. Also, once the glue gets gummy it stays gummy for a while.

Thanks all for the input. I started on it tonight. Just used a hairdryer. Took my time and started on one end on high setting. Took about 10-15 minutes for the first one. Came off easy. I think I'll go with silicon when putting it back together though just because I want to know it is well sealed up again.

Not helpful when someone already has an extra set of tails they wish to convert, but not the $350 to buy another set of tails. I sincerely wish i would have downloaded the instructions as a pdf now.

I would just buy a real set if I wasn't A: completely out of money in my car fund, and B: doing an LED conversion.

Follow the sizes I said on the bottom of that thread if you want true to size. The space between the two circles are 16.5mm also.
