Installing the Supra TT fuel pump.

I checked on the forum and could not find any concrete installation of the Supra fuel pump. I see that you probably need to make a positive and negative wires and connect it on the two studs on the Supra fuel pump and splice it into the orginal wiring adapter for the oem fuel pump. I guess my concern is if these two wires touch will it spark and also what safety perventions can I do to keep it safe when installing the fuel pump. Thanks in advance..

The Supra fuel pump is a direct swap, nothing tricky about it whatsoever. They are the exact same dimesions, externally, so installing the Supra pump is simply a matter of removing the stock fuel pump, and installing the Supra pump in the reverse order.


Be sure to reuse the FD's fuel sock/filter, as it's bigger, and sits slightly lower then the Supra's.

I used the stock filter also but I did get a tighter fitting O-ring to keep it from leaking from the increased pressure .

Remove trunk mat, 4 10 mm hold the aluminum cover on, from there disconnect the white wiring harness, undo the ground (5/16?or 8mm) then open the gas cap, then (hopefully your doing it on a non pressurized system (sat overnight) or you released the fuel pressure. Un do the 2 hoses that go into the tank, take your time b/c most likely their petrified on there. Unscrew the 2 10 mm plastic breather connections (they can be tucked out of the way) Then undo the 10 screws that hold the pump assembly in then gently lift out, remove old pump and re-install new pump reverse of disassembly. As far as precautions, your working with gasoline, don’t smoke, disconnect battery just to be safe, and while the tank is open make sure you don’t drop anything into it.

Its a lot easier than it seems, like when your all don you’ll be like wow that wasn’t as hard as I thought it was going to be

Be careful when lifting the old pump assembly out, and lowering the new assembly back in. It is very easy to get something caught, and stuck. If done improperly, your gas gauge won't work.

should there be any gaskets or orings that should be replaced when taking out the pump?

My gaskets were in good shape, so I re-used them. I have had no problems.

Thanks for all the great info. guy. I actually have a aftermarket Walbro and totally forgot how the OEM pump was plugged up. I remember now that I had to cut the two connectors off that plug + and - of the pump.

I want to install a dedicated and fused positive wire directly from the alternator/battery and of course a 30-amp Hella relay to my new Supra TT fuel-pump.

What ROUTE do people take to lay the wire ?

Do you go through the firewall, out the dash, and down the tranny tunnel to the trunk ?

Where do people mount the relay ?

I ran power down the driver's side of the interior, mounted the relay in the hatch area (where the toolkit used to be), and used the stock 12volt fuel pump power circuit to fire the new relay.

I just installed mine today, and was testing to see if everything was working right. I started the engine and let it warm up, then did a couple of idle revs to 2.5k-3k

It seems like I get a little more "popping" backfiring now when I let off, or maybe I just didn't notice before with the stock pump. Anyone backfire a little more with the supra pump by any chance?
