Infamous CA smog test failed horribly!

O.k. so I failed horribly, my numbers are way above the allowance.

HC (ppm) Max @ 25 mph = 53, I measured 1,000+

CO (%) Max @ 15 mph = 0.52
CO (%) Max @ 25 mph = 0.50 - Measured over 3.0+

I know the tricks on how to pass the smog test. But i'm not worried about that, I'm worried about where these numbers are coming from? I'm a little bit concerned about something being wrong with the car, any opinions?

I was surprised I failed, seeing how I took most of my mods off.

- 95 FD automatic.
- Stock Mount IC (greddy)
- y-pipe.
- Cat-back (dual N1).
- Stock intake, Stock DP, Stock cat, Stock ECU

Seeing that you failed soo horribly I would say your cats are bad and the air pump/air control valve system is possibly bad as well.

unless your running an aftermarket ecu and your tune is super rich.

I know you say you know the tricks but how long did you warm up your cats before the test?

sounds like its running way too rich. its impossible to pass smog unless you run the car very lean

first step would be to check the air injection system, its critical. you will be way off like this without it.

the stock main cats are pretty bullet proof, but if you have an aftermarket cat that's more than a year old its probably hollow by now.
