Importing newer FD's from Japan

So, I just read that most recent thread about importing a Spirit-R or Efini that was closed. And NO, this thread is not to say I'm also a dumbass who thinks I can do it and send me $40K right now. I realize there's a whole heap you'd have to go thru to get one here, and IF it can be done, it's definitely not worth it. My question is, if you have unlimited funds and time, CAN it be done? Because I have a friend who used to have a 93 FD and sold it for a Skyline. Dunno what year, but he sits right over there where the Postman does delivering your mail. I know little about Skylines, so all I can say is it's the awd version. I think he's crazy... dumped over $100K into the 7 over a period of years, ran a performance shop, then gets rid of both selling the car for $30K to buy this Skyline right from a dealership. He's Japanese, so for parts he just calls em up over there and orders stuff. But the car he got from a LOCAL dealership. So how the hell did THEY get it here?

Just out of curiosity, I'm only wondering HOW that dealership, (or whoever they got the Skyline from) managed to get registered here. Up until I saw him driving it, I thought it couldn't be done. So I'm just guessing that whoever got it here had all the money in the world? Just to satisfy my curiosity.... I don't see him much anymore, or I'd just ask him if he knows.

I see... I guess it can be done. I just figured they didn't exactly do everything "legally" to register it. Still think he's crazy. Who the hell spends over $100K on a damn beautiful and even more damn fast FD, only to sell it for $30K and buy a Skyline for $40k? He was running about a 10.3 1/4 in the FD for hells' sake! And at this altitude....

There are some shops that claim they can bring a JDM RX7 over here but they are full of ****. They do it by throwing the car through loop holes and doing shady ****. Just PM "DomFD3S". He has tore these guys new ******** with his expertise.

Unless a company will fund a operation like Motorex did with the Skylines, no JDM FD's will be seen here totally legal. At the best, '93-'95's will be brought in until someone can figure out how to overcome the ODBII ecu's just like with the Skylines.
